The Art of Happiness

The Art of Happiness

A Poem by Pauline

How glorious the noon sun bold

That kisses long the marigold

And dances o’er aromatic mint

To the shaded acer with a mere glint

Over the pot where petunias spill

Just at the end of the windowsill

The shadows stretch in curling scrawls

Along the passion flowered walls

And laughter shakes the apple trees

From that impish devil summer breeze

And thinks they’ll fall from his raucous song

But they defy him hanging on

And beam with reddened skins express

There sweet and plump deliciousness

And oh those flirty grapes divine

Which magically turn themselves to wine

Such treasures summer does bestow

Long may it reign long may it glow.

Glorious images of summer's wonders. I love your words. They bounce and charm the reader, not to mention the beautiful rhyme You've got a certain style that shows us the uniqueness of nature... and "oh those flirty grapes divine. You actually humanize these marvels.A happy piece!

You're very welcome!
Dear Pauline, first of your poems I have read. Impressed I am with wonderful imagery of what comes across as a very beautiful English garden. Very much enjoyed your poetic expression and classical style here. Thank you for posting. Made me happy to read it.
