A Dream

A Dream

A Poem by Pauline Marie Daley

I awaken to the serenade

Of the ocean's waves.

Lying on a dock - all alone.

The stars the only light gave.

Standing, staring at a silent star.

For me the lofty heavens played.

Taking hold of me.

My mind flying but away so far.

A step - wood creaked while stars shone.

I plunge into the icy blue.

Swimming, soaring, sights alluring.

Floating, feeling the tide.

Then sinking and back

To sleeping I lie.

I like the way the 's' alliteration gives you the feeling you're by the sea. I'm not sure about the punctuation in the poem or of the following line: "The stars the only light gave." Is that basically "the stars gave the only light" but with a poetic change in word order? Overall, I enjoyed reading the poem!
