The Briney BlueA Poem by Pauline Marie DaleyThere once was a man, That decided that life was just too long. He put on hope and happiness a ban, Because his saddness was just too strong.
He dressed in his best suit and tie And walked out the door. The people that passed him by Weren't important to him anymore.
He walked the trail through the park So he could enjoy one last stroll. But there was this intense pressure on his heart. Tears lining his face paid the toll.
His walk ended at a rusty bridge, Where his saddness began. The car had taken him off the ridge, Making him a lonely man.
He let his legs hang down and sat by the edge, Thirty feet down the water shone. A scream startled him, he wasn't alone.
He tried to look as he fell, But the wind blinded his eyes. The scream rang as long as a bell, As further down he flies.
He hit hte water with a smack, As he plunged into the briney blue. He wondered just how he sohuld act, And was given an amazing clue.
A limp figure floated in the dark, He strained ihs eyes to see, A little girl in a frilly dress, Cute as cute could be.
He quickly pondered what to do, Death was in his hands. He looked at her and looked, At his wedding band.
Someone loved this girl a lot, Like he had loved his wife. He wrapped his arms around her waist, And swam for her life.
He pulled her to the muddy sand, Wiped the water from her eyes. He held her face in his hands, A boy and girl ran to his side.
The bridge was weak, down she flew. She coughed up water, breathed some air, Looked up and then she knew, That if this man wasn't there, She'd still be down in the briney blue.
