Football Boys

Football Boys

A Poem by Pauline Marie Daley

Early one afternoon the sun was high,

Two boys leaped and jumped to the sky.

Back and forth a cowhide flew.

The clouds were white and the laces were too.

Then one day, the boys were men.

The ball still flies whenever it can.

But when it does, its with a team.

Its much more fun, or so it seems.

Now the men's teams are in a great fight.

Their lives will change by the end of the night.

An important game this will be,

The team that wins everyone will see.

But when the game starts the men are gone,

Hopefully they won't be away for long.

The game ends and still we can't see,

Where these lost men could be.

Now its afternoon and the sun is high.

Two men looked and jumped to the sky.

Back and forth a cowhide flew.

These men, are still boys too.
