If I Were A Beautiful Red Rose

If I Were A Beautiful Red Rose

A Poem by Pauline Marie Daley
"

The poem that started it all.

"

If I were a beautiful, shiny red rose,

Lying in the garden,

I'd let all the other flowers see my beautiful petals.

I'd stay right there, right there in the garden.

I wouldn't let the wind sweep me off my roots.

I would be comfy in the moist soil and,

I would say,

"Thank You for watering me each and every day."

I'd say to the wind,

"Thank You for blowing those catipillars off so they wouldn't eat my petals."

I'd say to everybody,

"Thank You for being my friend."
They'd all say, "You're welcome."

I'd love them all,

I'd say out loud, every day,

I'd say,

"You are my true friends."

I'd know they were true friends because,

I'd count on them,

I'd know they counted on me, trusted me,

And they'd know I did too.

When I'd wilt, they'd be sad, they'd say

"That flower was a really trustworthy flower."

If they wilted before me,

I'd be sad too.
