Full Bloom

Full Bloom

A Poem by Paul Bell

It felt like summer

The birds were singing

Bees were buzzing

The roses were in full bloom

He lay dead

The aroma of freshly baked cakes filled the room

The steak knife had broken going through his chest

He would have a guarantee for that knife, she thought

Him being so efficient

She decided he should be in bed

But the blanket looked silly sitting on top of the knife

A nice hole in the blanket sorted that

Then she realised she could have just put him on his side

I could have put you on your side, darling

He didn’t answer

That was another one of her pet hates, being ignored

I suppose I’ll be making dinner then

You’ll be wanting your steak well done

A bit like yourself

Well done

It felt like summer

The birds were singing

Bees were buzzing

The roses were in full bloom

He lay six foot under them.

I love how this started all happy and bright and then BOOM, dead dude. I did not see that coming. I really loved the images your words created.

This took me to a whole different level than I originally thought it would, wow...very cool Paul :) A mystery that talks to the reader, so very real too, I could see the whole scenario! Excellent...

Is this you, Ruth, when you lose the rag or are you more subtle.

I'm thinking pretty summer blooms here and someone has a knife in his chest! What??? LOL and he's a bit well done!?...but at least we have some roses and the birds are singing ;-)... I like happy endings! :-)

They'll be another husband around the corner somewhere. Probably the gardener delivering roses.

Oh boy! :-)
Bird, bees, flowers and trees,
It all sounds so spring garden fresh and he should make wonderful manure
Do rose roots reach 6' down
I suppose eventually
Nicely done Paul

Some people are just too lazy to go down the garden centre.
WOW, a murder mystery in the form of a poem. To me, this means he had abused his wife and she finally had enough so she murdered him with a knife. So well written....I can picture the scene perfectly. Lydi**

For sure! LOL
And those roses will be in full bloom for many a year to come. :))

Surreal in the best way and the scene you set in the readers minds eye is perfect.

How are you doing, Beccy, not heard from you in a while.
I love this & I've missed your unique way of setting a vivid tension-filled scene in just a short little ditty! This is one of your best . . . either that, or I'm just hungry to read one of yours again! (((HUGS)))

We're still wearing masks, cases going up again. Apart from that, all good.
This reminds me of that old TV series “ 6 feet under”
Very clever writing, soft at the beginning and end and maudlin in the middle; you have a great knack for this Paul and it just fits so well
Best
