Coffee.

Coffee.

A Poem by Paul Bell

I liked her analogy

We were old news

Discarded and forgotten

Hopefully never ever to see the light of day

But here we were

Putting that argument to the test

Should we forget coffee and just have sex, or is the coffee more important now

I think the coffee is definitely more important

Are you still decaf or has your taste got any better

I would say my taste has been challenged on numerous occasions

Mine also, but no one that could stir as good as you

Was it not the stirring that caused the problem in the first place

It was, but once we got rid of those ingredients things nearly got better

So they did we replaced them with even newer ingredients

I know, I just think the perfect cup is unreachable

Maybe the perfect cup was always in front of you

Do you know, I think you’re right, If only they could bottle hindsight, eh

Well, it would have saved us the journey of despair

We should drink to that.

We surely should.

This convinced me totally! Those who like decaf can't have good sex. The two things are mutually exclusive. The stirring was good but the new ingredients did not have enough pepper in them. This lead to the fallout and in hindsight its just that we need more coffee less stirring.
Superb! We can now write a thesis on this subject. I'm applying at a good university NOW!

I agree, more coffee less stirring. Universities take note. Get that course rolled out now.
I really like this. It's charming.
"If only they could bottle hindsight."
Indeed lol.....
I hope you are doing ok.

I'm doing ok. I hope you are handling it well...or at least as well as anyone can expect.
I think this a great metaphor for sensual stuff, and sexual stuff, the coffee is just to mislead the reader, but I definitely think they are talking about sex, not really about such a mundane thing like coffee.....I think you did a great job with this poem ( i may be way off too but that's the way I see it!)

No, you're spot on, coffee was just the meeting of minds.

I'm getting better!!!
My mind goes in various directions sometimes, thus still thinking about this poem, Paul! Importantly, I read your words twice, smiled the first time, laughed the second . Seems that metaphorical hindsight certainly cames a close second to a pot of strength 5 coffee. Take care, keep safe and happy everything for 2021.

This is great and light! I'm instantly reminded of those relationships where we stayed in each other's lives, continuing to check on each other, measuring up to how it was when we first met.

Definitely, intertwined interwoven through lives adventures.
I love and I need my coffee. No coffee, no life. Hello Paul and Happy New year. I did agree with the logic of these words.

I need the coffee my friend Paul. I have my 40 oz cup of coffee near now.

...and I will surely raise my morning cuppa java to that thought Paul! Comparing coffee to sex, love- on so many levels, novel and right on-point after both go cold. Great monologue narration and profound, metaphorical questions. You win at this every time my friend!

Cup of coffee new year, have a good one, Annette.
Love the sweet suggestiveness of your symbolism. Love that you don't dabble in the obvious over-used aspects of coffee, but you take your details into a deeper, multi-layered realm of suggestion. Nicely seductive! Hope you're up for a better 2021! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
