Behind The Wire.

Behind The Wire.

A Poem by Paul Bell

Behind the wire
Watching
The keeper of life
Burdened by memories
Too terrible for mortal man
Asking only sanctuary
Crumbs to die free
Image of a woman and children
Long gone
Evoking anger
Passion long suppressed
Time running out
Glory be
The wire divides
The whistle echoes
Demons fight for the final time
Silence
Angels collect the remnants of time.

A powerful, tragic, provoking poem. That speaks volumes to us, Paul. The reality of life, wars and divides that rules us all.

Very powerful poem here. Tragic, but powerful. Very well done indeed. I agree with earlier reviews that the last three lines are the best ones. Very moving.

War is always tragic. No winners.
Stark, beautiful and moving. I particularly love the last three lines:
'Demons fight for the final time
Silence
Angels collect the remnants of time.'
It certainly feels like the end times are upon us, doesn't it, my friend?
A masterful piece.

Such powerful words Paul. A battle and a soul lost. Armageddon?

You're not wrong, Annette.
A tragic end to a troubled and tormented life. The silence and angels bring some peace.
A nice poem Paul
