Ah, Timothy dear friend Did she steal your heart Cut you with those razor eyes of beauty Break you in two You’re just a man, mere mortal Never in this world could you tie her down No jewels, no cars, no house Just free to take your soul But you’ve been lucky dear friend Bittersweet it may feel No flesh to console Just a heavy heart Ah, Timothy dear friend The game of love is cruel But would you change it No We all want to be on If only for a time That beautiful journey.
The razor eyes of beauty do tell me something here. Poor shmuck! So In the end, she didn’t leave him even with his flesh on. Full marks to him for trying though! I wonder when men will learn? There are some things beyond mere mortals! Very well put, Paul.

Ah, some just don't learn. Sure he'll try again with a lesser mortal.
Your story in a poem reminds me of my younger days when I was quite the vixen, in command of my feminine wiles, more powerful than the riches of successful men. It's a game which can "sting" on either side of the playing field, so thank you for showing us the guy's POV. I always wondered why guys prefer what they cannot fully have!?!?! *smile* You explain the irresistible appeal! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You vixen, Margie. I would have bought you a Wigwam.
Better to have loved...I hope poor Timothy was consoled by this cutting analysis of a former relationship and the good advice offered at the end of it. This is a different style for you and you do it so well. The elegant, eloquent language and formal conversational style brilliantly contrast with the scathingly indicting conversational content. Yes, we shed gentle tears for Dear Timothy and wish him a speedy recovery.

Sure he'll bounce back. She was to expensive for him anyway.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...
Sometimes you win sometimes you lose
And sometimes the blues just get a hold of you
Just when you though you had made it
All around the block people will talk
But I want to give it all that I've got
I just don't want, I don't want to waste it
Talkin' 'bout sweet seasons on my mind
Sure does appeal to me
You know you we can get there easily
Just like a sailboat a-sailin' over the sea
[Instrumental Interlude]
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose
And most times you choose between the two
Wonderin', wonderin' if you have made it
But I'll have some kids and make my plans
And I'll watch the seasons runnin' away
And I'll build me a life in the open
A life in the country
I'm Talkin' 'bout a sweet seasons on my mind
Sure does appeal to me
You know you we can get there easily
Just like a sailboat a-sailin' on the sea
Talkin' 'bout a sweet seasons
Talkin' 'bout a sweet, sweet, sweet seasons
Talkin' 'bout a sweeeeeet seasons
Sorry; sometimes I am reminded of a song.
And nobody wins every time, as cheating, in the case of love, never helps.
And you're right; win or lose, we all get back on that merry-go-round, stretching at every turn for that brass ring.
Good work, Paul!

We are Mere Mortals with complex traits! More than half of our afflictions are self inflicted! We are not only capable of deceiving others, happily deceive ourselves! What a wonderful, thought evoking writing Paul.
A sad reminder of getting hurt in love. Particularly from a woman who is more interested in possessions and what a man can give her physically. Not with the heart, mind and soul thou. Which is far more precious in general.

Some just learn the hard way.

That is so true. Wish life was not like that. But harsh reality it's.
And with age there's the urge to be done with it all together. Enjoy our vices without the bitching. Sometimes a bitter heart is preferable, but I understand that love lost is better than not being loved at all. You expressed that in the best way any poet can. CD
