The Last Dance

The Last Dance

A Poem by Paul Bell

She dances the dance

The last dance

For all the lost souls

Left behind

She dances the dance

The last dance

For all the forgotten days

Left behind

She dances the dance

The last dance

To the days

When life mattered

She dances the dance

The last dance

To the decision

Made today

She dances the dance

The last dance

As they switch the machine

Off.

Nice flow of words and thoughts. I liked the use of the dance. Make the reader feel the words and the thoughts. Thank you Paul for sharing the amazing poetry.

No. Being good and you are welcome my friend.
I happen to think the last dance is romantic...the most important ...the ending and the beginning...but Im a little whacked like that...

I'm with you all the way.
We're both whacked.
Well, this poem kind of sobered me up Paul (You're to blame now). So much of life trapped in there. Can't believe (don't want to) it took just a switch to black it all out for good. Is it all there is, my friend?

(Reaches out for a shot of something neat. Never needed it so early in the day :( )

I ccould arrange it for less. Come to me next time 🤤🤑
I am assuming that you meant a life support machine; also, I imagine that this dance--the last dance--is figurative. I wrote something that this reminds me of. It was about kicking the drug habit (the word 'kicking' is apt). My poem was called 'MATTRESS DANCING".

Good work, Paul!
My sympathy if this was a real experience you had.

Sorry I missed your review. Will go and read Mattress dancing now.
Ouch... I was not expecting that ending, no way.. although.. maybe on reflection I should have... on even further reflection, I must say the build up to your concluding stanza is nothing less than fantastic..... Neville

Monday is not the day to read this one.
Actually, I wouldn't want to read it any day.

tis an incredibly sad poem for sure... if ya ever wanna talk...
so much sadness when the machine is turned off and the soul is allowed to leave a body that has shuffled off its mortal coil.

it is the last dance...and those who are closest...just stand on the sidelines and watch, and pray, and try to give her a last smile.

Must be heart wrenching.
dear Paul...!i feel as though I
am experiencing my last dance...
but one never knows which way the wind may blow. I may live almost a hundred years. G-d has planted us where we can grow. The fullness of the earth gives new birth..,
I so love your poetry. truly, Pat

You'll get that card off the King no problem.
If you are ready to go, have made that decision yourself, then it would be a blessing. Some people have to endure so much suffering at the end of their lives. I would imagine the dancing to be mental rather than physical.
