The Sea

The Sea

A Poem by Paul Bell

The waves pushed the body gently to the shore
So lifelike you expected words
But only the sea speaks for the dead
The story lasts for days, weeks, months
Some last forever
All lost souls walk on water for a time
A time to remember and say goodbye
The sea doesn’t portion blame
Asking no questions
Just becoming the guardian for a time
Before releasing the body to pastures new.

Thanks for reading. Great handle.
so deep and philosophically death will just be a stage to another life starting from the beginning.. and the sea here captured the essence of life as it is

Wonder how many people have died at sea.

too many to count
Poets wax rhapsodic about the sea a lot of poetry stored up there I suppose. "Wine dark" and all that. And every poem, every bit of paper and drop of ink rots away and resolves on down to add a dram of salt.
Water seeks its level, sea level and all that. I love you sea! Add this flush to your treasure.

"Good poem", he said. Speaking well of the dead is almost as out of fashion as acknowledging good work.

Yeah, sometimes the dead have no say in their demise. But I suppose death follows us all.
The past few days, I wrote a "sea" poem & I've read about six "sea" poems here, but your poem here (as to be expected) is the most "out there" in originality, it's thought-provoking & full of intrigue! *smile* Living near the seashore most of my life, we get regular news stories about people being lost at sea & then washed up later, so you've painted this word picture in my mind, exactly how it can be. I love the haunting sense of life lessons hidden between your stark lines (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The powerful sea has to be treated with respect. Even on the most tranquil and calm days it can become a taker of life. Tides can be lethal and for those who are unfamiliar with them, it can lead to tragedy. I have so much respect for life boat services. Without them many more would die.Wherever there is water, sea, lakes or rivers, great care needs to be taken regarding safety. Your poem made me reflect on the dangers which is in stark contrast to the seas incredible beauty. An interesting poem with some vivid imagery.

A powerful and worthwhile poem shared. I agree. The sea, never controlled or mastered. Keep the secrets of many things hidden away. Thank you Paul for sharing the outstanding poetry.
