I think it was yesterday Sure she said it was She’d known about it for weeks Yesterday was the right time to bring it up It started months ago Things were difficult back then I can’t remember the exact day Back then But why would I You don’t look back, do you I mean, you don’t think to yourself Last month I started an affair People don’t do that They might say Last month I ended the affair It was really about a year earlier We got talking Just about past relationships I mean, you don’t think for a minute You’re actually entering into a past relationship But in hindsight maybe you should It’s been a month since we split up Looking back I can see where it all went wrong But that was yesterday No point looking back now.
I think it can be difficult to totally live in the present, living for the day etc. Many people do reflect on the past. I can perhaps understand it more if you are elderly and have lost people who have been dear to you. I think we can learn by looking back and reflecting on mistakes and so try harder in the future, but our aim should be to look ahead. I am reminded of a phrase, Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. I think that is good advice. I enjoyed the read, thank you Paul.
well ............that's one way of looking at it ;} i like the questions your poem asks..it draws me right in .. almost asking my advice :))))))))))) we look back and realize truths ...in arrears ..the trick is to snatch them up for the present ..so in the future we can recognize ;) and perhaps steer clear ...:))))))))))))))))))))))))) but that would make us wise beyond our passions eh!? love ya man! always get wrapped up in your writes

No point in looking back now, but it is all spread before our eyes, and takes giant's effort not to over analyzing the past. Now and then it over takes us and sometimes brings closer of sorts, by examining it we know when all went to hell in a hand basket!

quite like the idea of going to hell in a handbasket. lol
Pensive and perceptive poetry.
Have spent most of my old age being pestered by the past; to be honest, I'm sick of reviewing old scripts--playing all-too-familiar roles.
For me, looking back is just looking around.
maybe we do look back just a bit too much, even before we are done with whatever we are looking back upon...
this made me reflect...
