The Night Creatures.

The Night Creatures.

A Poem by Paul Bell

They walk through the darkness
The night creatures
Searching out their prey
With stealth like accuracy
Gathering pace
As the scent gets stronger
Teeth baring
Sharpened claws extended
As the prey await their fate
The hairs go up
A sudden quiet descends
Then the screams reach fever pitch
It’s too late
Surrounded
Nowhere to run
They have you
Trick or treat mister
Blast
Caught again.

Your Halloween poems are the stuff of nightmares! I shouldn't read them at night!

You write what you feel, and I appreciate your writing just as it is!
It's all fun and games until the real night creatures come roaming...excellent little spoof.

This could be you wandering through the night.

I often do wander.....who knows?
I live on a dirt road with only one neighbor anywhere near close by ...i have two large dogs who sometimes alert on the dark surrounding woods ... sometimes it gives me chills ... we have all kinds of wild life around us .. mostly unseen ... so i slipped into the terrors of your poem right off ...saw the hairs go up and the tension mount in animal legs and backs ...only to be relieved with laughter ... trick of treat indeed ... i guess i was tricked pretty good sir! :)

Caught every year.
At first I was like, ok he decided to turn Gothic. But deep down there was this voice that kept saying, just wait for it.
Also, I just saw that everyone said the same thing more or less, so I'm happy to be adding to the originality of the comments here. lol

That's okay. The girl next door gave me her handbag.
Right over my head.
Seriously of the moment, as I am sure was always your intention. Love the unexpected twist.
Thrillin & chillin.
Actually relieved, would be more appropriate, it was a tad scary....N

Kids can be so scary when they are on a mission. This felt really creepy. I wish you luck Paul :)

Machine gun post set up as we speak.
The build up of urgency and the eeriness of this one are great. I enjoyed your Halloween poem. BOO! Lydi**

Love them really. lol
After all that anticipation, I was fearfully waiting for the kill, then ... ...those damn kids on Bonfire night! This was a well written poem, which gave me a chuckle( of relief!) at the end. Thank you.

Yes, but I don't mind anything sneaking up on me .. as long as it gives me a chuckle!
Wonderful.. fun.. great twist to the tale!! Suggest runny honey on the door knocker or bell - is sweeter than garlic! Has been done!!

Failing that, pull up the drawbridge?
