Looking Back.

Looking Back.

A Poem by Paul Bell

I think it was yesterday
Sure she said it was
She’d known about it for weeks
Yesterday was the right time to bring it up
It started months ago
Things were difficult back then
I can’t remember the exact day
Back then
But why would i
You don’t look back, do you
I mean, you don’t think to yourself
Last month i started an affair
People don’t do that
They might say
Last month i ended the affair
It was really about a year earlier
We got talking
Just about past relationships
I mean, you don’t think for a minute
You’re actually entering into a past relationship
But in hindsight maybe you should
It’s been a month since we split up
Looking back
I can see where it all went wrong
But that was yesterday
No point looking back now.

A lost love you still long for. It's written beautifully. Yes no looking back I know it's difficult to follow and easy to say. Well we all have our way to move forward :)

Thanks Ah'sunam. You know what you're doing now.
I agree with BG totally. The fevered logic of this one really communicates a mind obsessed with a lost love and how it seems to have run through the fingers of the speaker like water.
I could connect with this one deeply Paul, which is not nice.
Excellent piece, I feel.

Perspective
Some may see this as you avoiding looking. Back on something that ended
Someone else
May see this is an attempt for someone to refresh a relationship and bring back history into a present solid presence that birthes an endless future

Perspective is everything
It's what made a scientist turn an apple into a law of gravity
While another man made an apple a passing item through one's digestive system

I can't change :)
This rambling diatribe, to me, is a way of SHOWING instead of telling . . . the mind is nearly scrambled with agonized feelings, so your message isn't one of clarity, but of teeter-tottering on the edge of comprehension. Some short blasts of friendship can be like that, never making sense & all introspection sounds exactly like this.

It all comes together in the words.
A poem as a conversation with yourself and your concience. This is an idea I like and it is well performed.
