Mr Crow

Mr Crow

A Poem by Paul Bell

Mr Crow, why are you flying in the rain.

In thunder and lightning you must refrain.

Find a tree, wait and see. Let it be.

Not that tree Mr Crow. That’s the bare tree, can't you see.

Go to the tree with leaves, surely you can see.

No point looking at me Mr crow, i’m indoors.

Lightning won't strike me.

Why do you sit on the bare tree, Mr Crow

Tell me, i need to know.

Do you have a death wish.

Don’t stare at me Mr Crow. Take my advice, you know i’m right.

What is wrong with you, it’s like.

Are you taunting me, Mr Crow.

You’re taunting me.

Are you mad

You’re sitting on the bare tree, defying death.

What the hell is wrong with you.

You want me out there.

You want me to join you.

Only a fool would sit on the bare tree.

Waiting for that strike, can’t you see.

I’m lying Mr crow, i know

You’re waiting

It’s time to go

Let us sit together

Let the storm blow

I remember the fear now, Mr crow

That day, you know

The ship, the storm, being below

In the water

Lost from view

The lightning strike

The final few

The storm is dying, Mr crow

Seems strange

Feel i’m born anew

I watch you fly away

Only to return

To salute the few

You made me see, Mr crow

Now it’s time to pay my dues

Someday i’ll return, you’ll see

We’ll be together

Finally at rest

Beneath the bare tree.

Do you have crows in UK? We have none here in Brasil. They are supposed to be one of the smartest birds in the animal kingdom! For sure Inspired a thought evoking poem!

Thanks Julie, hows things going.
"Quoth the Raven, nevermore"...brilliant dark imagery of the crow as the omen of death. Superb form as the narrator sees, questions, warns, admonishes and then finally accepts his destiny personified by the crow. Survivor's guilt...life-in-death..the dreaded Albatross. Master-Class work my friend. Kudos!

Thanks Anand.
Crows are contrary creatures who crave the nature of cacophonous chords - like thunder after the sizzling lightning. I catch them occasionally watchin' me with their beady eyes...harbingers of doom? This is sad, waiting to join this ole contrary critter under that bare tree. Well done.

It's a sad day right enough.
Wow! It was like I was with Mr. Crow while reading this piece, advising, waiting, getting angry, and helping him out 😊 I love the way you've brought you imagination so eloquently on the page!

A wonderful Masterpiece!😊👏👏👏👏
Well done, Paul

Whoa! This is amazing! It's an ever-changing message for me. I start seeing it as a friendly chat, then it seems to turn into a warning, then a bit of a tirade. At this point I started to think about politics (always on our minds over here) & it seemed to have a double meaning that relates to the public strife that dominates our discourse (as if the bare tree and the storm are various political threats). Yet I’m also thinking about those types of people who just can’t let a person live their lives and they have to provide a running commentary on how they think things should be done & how you’re doing it wrong. I mean, there are a million different ways this could be interpreted, which to me is a sign of brilliance that I often find in your writing, Paul (((HUGS)))

I loved this conversation with the crow. Many a time I have imagined there was meaning in what the creatures I see,are doing!. I like the metaphor of the 'bare tree' and the reference to what this talking to the crow is all about ...'The ship, the storm ' 'lost from view, the final few,'
The ending is a bit ambiguous? But that is quite clever, so that the readers can make of it what they like! Well done.

Great personification of the crow...and a lot of introspection too. Often when we observe others, we can figure out what is really going on in our own lives. Sort of a dark view in this one, but I liked the read. Lydi**
