The Dark DaysA Poem by Paul BellHe saw her through the dark days It took time But time was all he had The battle, he was winning He could plan the future Small steps But steps nonetheless They would walk, talk He wouldn’t rush The critical time would come The second breakdown He would be ready Had to be The pouring of grief trickling, Flowing quicker, Then the torrent It was hell on earth Described like an exorcism She would sleep now He could relax Regain his thoughts Plan the next step He was in a positive mood He went to check on her No sign His heart began to beat faster Logic was lost Run and search Not panicking, but panicking Blind panic now Tears were flowing In his mind he saw it Dismissed it Find her, keep searching She was gone, he knew Hated himself He sat down in despair She was watching him Trying to take his pain Reassure him Take the burden away It would take time But time was all she had now She was released The pain had gone. © 2016 Paul BellReviews
