Love Smoke

Love Smoke

A Poem by Paul Bell

I draw you in
Five rings of smoke appear like magic
Your face on every one
Christ how romantic am I
Maybe drink a JD  in your honour
It's amazing how little things bring you to me
The phone comes alive halfway through your honour
Your soft sexy voice sends a tingle down my spine
You say it's over
Well, that was out of the blue
I draw you in
The sign on the packet
Smoking can damage your health and eventually kill you
So profound
I check the bottle of JD
No warning on that
You disappear into the clouds
Every one a silver lining.

Thanks Bacchus. Off to read your Fresh with the smoke now.
Hello Paul Bell,

I really enjoyed the analogy of unhealthy habits: love, cigarettes and alcohol. It felt raw and yet very real, almost gritty, if you will. It is a very good poem.

Thank you for sharing your work!

You drown your suffering in smoke. I guess that is what the poem says. Not a healthy habit, you know. But I really liked the poem. : )

What a superb metaphor -- both a slice of real -- the addiction of smoking, the drink, and unhealthy love. Love it.

Don't you start smoking and drinking and unhealthy loving now.
This is pretty sad. You are drowning your sorrow in puffs of smoke.
It's not easy but when she says it's over, you just have to move ahead.
