Ellis IslandA Poem by Pat LynchOne of my first piecesAll the immigrants scurried on the
boats Bringing all their animals, their
fish, their goats. The families though it best to head
for the highland So they took off, on their journey to
Ellis Island. The boat brought along gentle breezes But the living conditions brought
harsh diseases. Things were cramped, and tempers were
fuming, But all in all, the boat was moving. Browns and grays, there weren’t many
colors, Among many people, parents, sisters
and brothers. When they all had enough they began
to argue, But all were struck silent, when they
saw the statue. As the immigrants looked at what they
had become, They sat and pondered, in everlasting freedom © 2013 Pat LynchAuthor's Note
