Diamonds and Rust

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

Been gone awhile , no words .. just a beautiful song .. hope someone enjoys this as much as i do .. what a beautiful voice ... crystal emotions .. and don't we all have one ghost from the past that passes through us from time to time?

I can't believe it but do and do because.. I heard this on Sunday morning radio and meant to look it out and listen again .. and here it is, such wonderful words and sung so beautifully. Still shaking my head in disbelief at the surprise of it being here!!! The lyrics are true poetry .. the best of love and all that goes along with it. THANK YOU ..

So good to have you 'home'. Smiling, waving across the miles. :)

Lovely, Chloe, and yes, you are right, we do all have those ghosts that pass through us from time to time, especially at Christmas time.

Much love to you & Donovan from across the pond

I am a Joan Baez Bob Dylon fan from the beginning. This is just one of so many that they did together but only one voice sung the verse. She, Joan, is one of if not the greatest woman singer ever to come from our country. Leave it to you to have found this song.

Awaiting the return of the voice I recall from the past. not quite a ghost, but absent for too long. Hope all is well Chloe.

{{{Chloe}}}, You are one of the best "gifts" in itself! I am so glad to "see" you! You always bring a smile to my face as I think of the last five years and how supportive and loving you have Always been! I am not surprised, but delighted as this is song is in the top of my long list :-). I am on a New Forever Beginning journey, and as we travel through this world my S.I.S.. Please know you and Mr. D have a special place in my heart! Sending hopes for a Peaceful, Joyous Christmas that is drenched in Love! ~ Jude

The second album I ever bought was a Joan Baez, so I've been a fan for a long time. In the early sixties, she, Bob Dylan, and Peter, Paul, and Mary were very popular and performed many of the same songs. When I began playing guitar, it was their music that I strived to play. Although Joan and Bob had a long relationship, it didn't last. Too bad, too, because they seemed made for one another.

Well you have been missed and I do hope things get better for you soon. You have been missed greatly.

I love Joan Baez. I saw her live twice in Europe a long time ago. Her words are needed today. Thank you for the song.

As you can tell she wrote this about Bob Dylan... I think she still loves him.
Here are the lyrics written by Joan Baez..

Diamonds and Rust Lyrics
Artist(Band):Joan Baez

(Words and Music by Joan Baez)

Well I'll be damned
Here comes your ghost again
But that's not unusual
It's just that the moon is full
And you happened to call
And here I sit
Hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I'd known
A couple of light years ago
Heading straight for a fall

As I remember your eyes
Were bluer than robin's eggs
My poetry was lousy you said
Where are you calling from?
A booth in the midwest
Ten years ago
I bought you some cufflinks
You brought me something
We both know what memories can bring
They bring diamonds and rust

Well you burst on the scene
Already a legend
The unwashed phenomenon
The original vagabond
You strayed into my arms
And there you stayed
Temporarily lost at sea
The Madonna was yours for free
Yes the girl on the half-shell
Would keep you unharmed

Now I see you standing
With brown leaves falling around
And snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window
Of that crummy hotel
Over Washington Square
Our breath comes out white clouds
Mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me
We both could have died then and there

Now you're telling me
You're not nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You who are so good with words
And at keeping things vague
Because I need some of that vagueness now
It's all come back too clearly
Yes I loved you dearly
And if you're offering me diamonds and rust
I've already paid
