Free of Me

Free of Me

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a woman -
Lipstick, high-heels , black nylons for me
When I was a little girl I wanted to be a Vet
Sick puppies and kitty cats I would heal
When I was a little girl
I wanted to be a mother
My baby doll I did care for, love well

When I was a teenager I wanted to be a woman
Bleeding from the womb
When I was a teenager I wanted to be loved
Kissed and hugged , cuddled and cooed
When I was a teenager my mother said I stood funny
Crooked back , a crack in my otherwise non-perfection
Surgery was the only cure

For me I was robbed of my teenage years
A woman is all I wanted to be
A Vet with sick puppies and kitty cats
Off to college I went
I made up for the robbing of my teenage years
Boys, cars, pot and booze
Hoping to bleed with each new moon

Then a  little girl I wanted to be
No worries and my mommy to take care of me
No sick puppy dogs or kitty cats
No lipstick , nylons high heel shoes
No bleeding from my woman's womb

A little girl with no worries carefree
As now all I have are staid memories
No one to chase away the boogies at bay
Being a woman is not all I thought
If I could be a little girl again
I wish I were a little girl again
I want to be free of me
Can I please be a little girl again
I want my mommy to take care of me

I absolutely adore this!!! It made me think about when I was younger. And while I never wanted high heels or dresses, I did think a lot about what it would be like when I got older, or tried to. It's interesting to see how we always want to predict the future but when the "future" is here, we look back at the past and think "What exactly just happened? Let me rewind!" It also made me think about when your parents tell you "You'll understand when you get older." But do you ever really understand more when you're older? It seems to me you just see things in a broader prospective and are just exposed to more things you'll never understand. I don't know. But thank you for your writing! This was absolutely beautiful!

beautiful, touching write. Many of us'll be able to relate with it. Perhaps all of in a corner of mind have a wish of going back. But i think this state of happiness and carefree can be gained in any age if adopted the right way of thinking. Well written, thanks for sharing.

well...growing up is not all it's cracked up to be...however a fav fictional character of mine once said after a fashion: 'what's the point of growing up if you can't be childish now and again?'

Nice. So true, a message that has been given a different and deeper meaning.

This write makes on think to cherish what they have,
Quite the sad read.

The passing of time creates it's own realm, one I believe we all share in life,
I can relate to the meaning as I am sure many people can, it pulls at the core
of each persons dream, yet it's never too late to do what the heart wants.
wonderful and heart tugging work here, chloe

if this is what you want then be it, we must understand that we are in control of the choices we make. if your intent is to have the freedom of a child then that freedom you shall have...

i hope that you seek to make your dreams come true.

with that said...
i enjoyed the rhythm and cyclical nature of the piece.

smile. :)

Truly a robust piece of work here.
Love the concept of wanting to grow
up before your time only to realize
you were better off the way you
were and long for those days again.

I love this poem. Sometimes I feel like being an adult is just too stressful. I miss the days when I was young. This was really good! It was a very vivid, passionate poem. I felt there was a certain sadness hidden beneath the lines though. Maybe I'm imagining things? Great Work!
