Hope

Hope

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

I packed our belongings,
looked around - could be the last time
I see this town -
I hope beyond hope it does not drown

Like Atlantis of old this town may be
buried beneath the  Missip's muddy sea
because you see we are sacrificial lambs
now look closely I tell the kids - no tears

Instead of tears - hope- hope
to have a home to come back to
hope we have a town to come back to
look around , soak it all in put it your memory bank

Perhaps the last we see of our home town
I know it hurts, I am crying too
we have to be strong and see this through
wipe away your tears let's leave without fear

This house has held us kept us safe and warm
through many a winter's storms - here from your birth
I brought you so many memories we all share
call Chipper get him in the car , no dear child

He can not swim that far- all your questions
I have no answers my precious dears
looks as if the worst may already be here
but we can hope , we can pray

Going to take a miracle to save the day
we can hope , we can pray for a miracle
of miracles to safe our day

*Please, let it be *.

Author's Note

Chloe..Across the Universe
just simple thoughts on the towns and people of the towns being flooded in order to save NOLA and other large cities in La.
I feel so bad for them all ! What a horrible thing .
Pray they still have something to go back to. From the newscast pictures many do not :( - and the cost for them, us and already a 14.3 - 8? trillion dollar debt the
USA is in .. things look grim , no i am no pessimist .. a realist
this is all too real- click the picture please - choppy poetry from the heart

Living in Arkansas and by the White River that drains into the Mississippi at its ending..we also had towns surrounded by water and some streets and homes in our town flooded..I pray daily for all those losing so much and also the poor farmers who are losing their crops and machinery..Kathie

And we should always hold onto hope! Thank you for your loving heart and for encouraging each of us to remember such tragedies! You have told of it in such a very touching way!!

"The Mississippi River will always have its own way; no engineering skill can persuade it to do otherwise.."
- Mark Twain in Eruption

It is an awful shame that old Sam was right..
The river was not meant to be tamed...A century of using moldboard plows on the farmlands of the upper midwest, and Missouri drainage did not help the situation.

We all are hoping for relief for the people who live in the river valleys...Your poem is all that you can do besides that, Chloe..A Good and timely poem, I thank you for it, for myself, and the people affected, who won't see it.
You get a gold star for caring.

The recent and on-going flooding is unprecidented, and the homes and lives being destroyed is truly heart-breaking. With global weather patterns going wacko, I'm not sure some of the low-lying areas like NOLA are going to survive very far into the future. So very sad.
