Five Years Ago

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

I press my lips against your tiny head
I hold you close to my breast-mother's milk
You smell like Heaven
How did I have such a beautiful child?

Depending on me and only me
You can always depend on me
Mommy loves you so
I will keep you safe and warm

Showering you with all the love that lives
Within me where you grew for nine months
How excited I was to feel that first fleeting butterfly
Your tiny foot kicking inside made me so happy

How time passes by- blinking the sun
From my eyes you are one- two-three
Four - five - years ago on this day you came
Into my world -time passes too quickly

"Don't look at me", you say as you put
On your Spider Man undies
"I can do it ", you say when I say, let me
Help you with your shoes

The feelings are mixed-no longer so dependent
Upon me -you are growing up quickly
So quickly and you are my world
I know it will not be long- how can I let you go?

You will say, "This is the girl I want to marry
She looks like you, see"
I will nod and blink the tears away
So you will not see

I will watch you walk down the aisle
With your beautiful bride
No longer are you dependent upon me
You have her -your helpmate

I blink tears away as I look into your eyes
Once again a different day I hold you close
You smell like Heaven
Child of my child my love for you is forever

You can always call on me

what a beautiful, loving poem, chloe
The love of a mother for her child...never ends...never diminishes
you made that crystal clear...
and you are so right....you have to cherish every moment....because in what seems like an instant, they're grown and gone...
Great write

O!
This is so sweet. There is a song written by a great artist in my country...i wish i could translate.

I didnt know what it was to have a mother who loves u, but now i know that she did in bits and pieces.

I know that all i have for my children is love - unconditional.

x,
O!

I can only try to imagine what joy a woman must feel at bringing life into the world. As a father, I relate to all you say, but know there's a dimension to your joy that I'll never experience. Mothers are special, and it warms my heart to see that you are such a good one.

Mother's Day is all about this: a mother celebrating the child in her life (and not the other way around)

Lovely tribute to your child...

Oh, a mother's love for her child is infinitely bigger than the cosmos and more powerful than creation itself. You have created something that's truly heartfelt and tender. Love this one, and belated birthday wishes for Donovan too.
