Friends and Numbers

Are they my friends as it says on ' my friends list'.. or am I a number who they saw on the front page one of the few times I was there as top reviewer and thought I would make a good friend, or in other words, review all their writings. I don't know .. I have had enough of false friends.. I have some true friends here so you know I am not talking about you .. just those who want to be added and never say hi or thank you or read my work .. so am i a friend or a number?

I feel like a number and that's not a good feeling .. we are all numbers in the eyes of the government .. why do i have to be a number here? I tell all who read my profille I am no writer .. and i am not , truly.
I can only write in a block free flow form.. i have no idea how to write any styles and no clue of juxtposition and judeo -christianity .. I just feel like a number on a list of other numbers.. An avatar on the road to nowhere going South and ending up North.

I am not angry, I am just curious, like the cat.. but as far as Chinese Astrology goes, I am a pig .. and I am a Virgo .. and I have a Scorpio Moon and I think the moon is quite lovely .. like true friends.

I agree, I add peoplem daily and never hear from them again, yesterday I tried to figure out how do u delete
them off your list, only one page shows and then no further...............I guess we know those we review regularly and those who stop by to read us, or just say hello..............its frustrating but what can you do unless you ask questions before you add new requests.

LOL Well said. I know what you mean about so many "friends" out there. I read a lot of people, but consider few friends to me. I would like to be considered a friend... you are dear to me.

yes of course. Your honesty and openness are refreshing. Youth and health bubble from your writing. Why worry about how many people are on your list? I don't. I get messages from people that think of me. I read everyone that sends me a request with a PM and at random through the requested reading. Certain people jump out of the list when I scan... and my Virgo friend with 6 awards and much more time to spend here than I... you intrigue me. I'll read your new stuff if you ask and I'll catch your name in lists.

I updated my bio (yet again) to let people know random Friend requests are rude...then I think back to last year when I got here and wonder if I did that? No, I think I befriended those who read me back after I read them. Lately, people seem to be reading my bio so along with Friend Requests I'm getting at least one review....so that's a good thing. lol I've had many people overflow my RR box never to return a review. Well....sorts it right out there, doesn't it?? Yeah, to some I know I'm just another number...or potential rater...but with others...I know I am home. Seems that we are all having a rethink about this topic at the moment. I don't ever wish to offend anyone which is why I seem to have added so many friends. But also what exactly is a friend on the writers site? I don't seem to have much time to interact with many at the moment. Also sometimes I choose to read a random piece by someone I don't know and then think they could be a friend as I enjoyed reading their work but would they be friendly to me? Certainly the issue of being a friend should go beyond reading and writing.
There is no easy answer to this one (and you know the problems I have had with the new site with Nats)
I seem to have offended quite a few people recently with this friendship concept on here. Maybe Charles would have been better to have wiped all the friends section off so we could start again? I know who my friends are without even having to look at the listing.

"to the left, to the left..." :) I think all friend-list users have felt this way at some point. Then again, what to do? Be rude and delete for defeate of any possibility? Nay. Or maybe it's the only way... to save... yourself from numbered pain. lol
Good write Chloe. I like the free form. Your thoughts are genuine and interesting and it had a good flow. I like the branch of subjects from friends-lists to numbers to the snippets about yourself throughout (learning things a friend should know) to the check yes or no (which i think should read, "yes, or no") that works well as a whole. I'm a rat. I didn't like you said you "can only write block free flow form." It sounds like your limiting yourself before you've even started. You obviously have literary talent ("the moon is quite lovely.. like true friends" is beautiful and thoughtful and honest btw), and you're here drinking coffee so obviously you're interested� so why not try a haiku or even a free verse poem and you can create your own rules like 'no more than 8 syllables to a line' or whatever and even if it turns out absolutely horrid (doubtful), at least it turned out and you have some experience for the next time you try. :) You can do anything you put your mind to.

clicks yes..........I try my best to read what "my friends" have written. Sometimes I will do it all in one day and then not read for a few days or maybe a week. My time is limited, but I enjoy what others write...........it inspires me! I read all read requests I get, but sadly I don't get many........for all the friends I have it is sad. So send them my way for sure!!! A great subject to write about here, made me think do I do this, do I unintensiouly ignore someone, I certainly don't mean too. But I do agree that if you get nothing in return are they truly a friend? Thank you for writing this

Boy can I understand your frustration...I deny new requests, particularly ones that don't read my writing...I ask myself "Why do they want to be my 'friend' when they don't even know what I've written?" That doesn't make sense to me. As far as numbers, it's ridiculous because no matter how many "friends" are on the list, we don't get paid, in fact we don't get anything for being on the top list...so why is it a contest? I think some people have nothing else in their life and they need to be validated by a false cyber world...GREAT rant, my friend...I think this issue is on the minds of many...I always love to read you and think you are a great person :)

I like this little rant, Chloe. I feel the same way. I'm getting frustrated by people who send me friend requests. I have no idea who they are and they have no idea who I am ... and my friends list is getting tedious ... I have so many read requests from people who never think to stop by ... losers.
