Apathy in 2008

Apathy in 2008

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe
"

for we the people

"

Are you choking on words
holding them in
these words that you
 need
should
spit out

is anyone listening
(no ones listening)

The new year is dawning
2008 should be our's
we set here mumb
hate to say it
 makes us look slightly
dumb

Letting the goverenment dictate our lives
sending more and more soldiers to die
for a war based on lies, revenge
 oil, the almighty

Is anyone listening
(no ones listening)

They think of us as a number
face without a name
we are nothing to them
I will say this over
 again
 again
again

Is your brother dying from cancer
your sister from aids
I bet they have the cure
money, the almighty
spoonfed lies to keep us
half satisfied
as if we are brainless

Bob Dylan sang to us of times a changin'
answers blowin' in the wind
John and Yoko said give peace a chance
young people rallied and stood up for their rights
four died in Ohio
because
they
 stood up
to the
governement
shot them down
fell to their death on a college campus

Here we sit
staring at a screen
thinking of ratings
and dating
and whose number one

while

The soldiers are dying
on foreign soil they lie
we set here
like we are
deaf
dumb
blind

Is anyone listening
(no ones listening)

Now is the time
to say we've had enough
cough those words in their faces
spit them out
while they lie thinking
they leave no traces

Is anyone listening
(no ones listening)

Look at your children
what they will inheirit
a world of empty faces
nothing but a number
457-89-6666

A sea of water
from east to west
hurricanes
blizzards
droughts
really hate to speak of more

Is anyone listening

This is our life
their lives
right in front of us

Let us make it better
how can we leave our babies
in a world where no one matters

Now is the time
those words
spit them out
in their faces
no matter your color
creed
 races

Let them know we
are not ignorant
anarchy
it might be
the
only
answer

Un-American?
Not I !

For We Are The People
2008 is our's
turn that
mute button
to
off

Author's Note

Chloe..Across the Universe
Tired of politics as usual!
Now we have Obama Hussein Barraka and Hillary Rodham Clinton playing the he said she said game.. if these people are so passionate about America and wanting to be President .. why do other people write their speeches in most cases???
As for McCain .. i don't know .. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee looking on the sidelines ..
Politics as usual..

nothing wrong with the world at all.. everything is perfectly created..

i remember.. my ancestors.. saying.. ohhh... in our good old days.. life.. was...
see whats happened now..

believe me.. this statement will be repeated.. again n again.. generation of after generation..

but life will continue.. like a stream never ending.. taking in more more n more souls along the way..
and dumping out souls .. tired ones..

Four dead in O-H-I--O..... you brought it all back here, Chloe. The sit-ins, the black arm bands, the protests. I was there and that flower child/hippie still lives deep within me. The silent majority means nothing if they do not raise their voices and let themselves be heard. A socially conscientious write...a very good one to start off the new year. I liked it. Lydia

Apathy? No! Impossible when 85% of the population cast a vote in a presidential election. For one and only one example. But the feeling, and, due to education, the belief, the conviction or the knowledge that history follows its own rails, its own roads, its own paths, so that we, as indiciduals, as masses or as humanity, have no say or so little in what will come out of what is now raging. Will the war on Iraq have changed anything in the general trend of history? No. Korea is as close to unity as it has not been for half a century and it is getting better day after day. Would a war on North Korea have improved things? Of course not. Will the President who started the war on Iraq be able to start one, no matter how limited it could be, on Iran? No. This time, and secret services always work internationally together in such projects, have tied up his hands and put at least half a dozen extra padlocks on the war pedal. Is their report true? Probably not, but it is the proof history cannot be stopped and history is nothing but a constant equilibrium and balance of opposed forces to avoid the next pathetic, yes I say pathetic, drama and then tragedy. That's how it works and it is not even the assassination of Benazir Bhutto that will be able to start the third World War some are more than dreaming of, since they are already announcing it. The world is changing so fast we cannot even remember what happened yesterday because we are already overwhelmed by what is happening today. And that's the only point on which I agree with Fukuyama, and Karl Marx by the way: history is going towards a goal that is produced over the centuries by the very contradictions human society contains (because history is purely human) and this leads towards a slow but irreversible movement towards more freedom for individuals and groups, for everyone and all communities. How will that freedom express itself in the future? Will there be an end to that movement? To the first question I answer I don't know and I add democracy is ot necessarily the best way, at least representative and parliamentary democracy. To the second question I answer NO because freedom will never be anywhere perfect, total, absolute: there will always be some more freedom to conquer and history will tend towards that unreachable goal all the time.

So apathy? No. I think many people would just want history to run its course without conflicts, be they military wars, ethnic wars, political wars or social wars. And that is difficult indeed.

Have a good day

Jacques

Such a strong piece filled with very just words that need to be heard............we are doomed if we don;t all collectively speak up........and your strenght behind your hurt speaks to all everywhere.
Lets hope 2008 is the year of the people and not those in power.

This piece needed to be written; and needs to be heard, not just read. There are so many things in this world that we as a populace can change. It will take time, and it will take fortitude. But knowing that I leave three children, and 2 grandchildren {with one on the way}, to live in this world when I am gone; makes me feel like I have to take a stand. I want to do whatever I can. Its obvious that it is going to take "WE" the people...if the people will listen; as you so powerfully stated the people aren't listening or they don't care! Powerful piece ~ Jude xo

I sure hope you are right, about 2008 finally being OUR year. It's time for another movement of change, and that torch has to be passed to the new generation, because us old Boomers couldn't get the job done.
Good writing, good thoughts, and I see the passion and fire in your soul.

Okay here we go. You got me on my soap box again. We are a country of individual that are all looking for something to unite us. A person an idea a cause. People want to make change they are most a fraid or unaware of how to make it happen. We need leadership or focus. People want us to pull troops out of the war, people want to go green, people want hope for a better future. All these require action. Action to make a difference in the world. But is their a person that you would consider a leader a person that others would follow if give the chance or choice. We can't follow our governmental leaders as they are all got their own agendas and really don't carry about the people of this nation or the world for that fact. They are all to busy trying to find ways to help the rich remain rich and the poor to be grateful to have what we have and thank them on a daily bases. We must come together, we must stand strong together. This country was not built that we should fear our government but the government should fear the people. As the people are the back bone of it and are the ones that allow it to work.

I am not a person that would or does just stand by and allow the injustices that I see continue. I fight for freedom. But I also know with that comes a greater risk. Look throughout history any great leader for change or that stood against the popular views ended up killed. I for one am pride of those who have died in th line of world change. I imagine that like them I will ended up the same way. Because I am not afraid and I will not keep my mouth shut.

Chloe I am always proud to call you a friend and a sister. You stand up when others won't and you like me are always trying to make a difference in the world. I say to you God Bless and I always got your back

This is a great piece. STAND UP!! I don't care if beliefs differ, we need to react, now. We have become zombies. They convince us there is nothing we can do. I would love to see our people shake sugaree, make some noise, pick a cause, get involved in your own personal battle, and STOP blindly voting. I don't care what party you belong to, if you represent how I feel, I'm voting for you. Good write, Chloe. Rain..

This is well put and there is a lot wrong with this society and a lot right. But things won't ever be fixed if we as a people don't try to help. Some sections of society are often over looked but thank you for shedding some light on them as well. T
