The Seaside

The Seaside

A Poem by Patrick Schultz
"

A boy has a conversation with the sea about love

"
---------------------------------

I went to the sea-side today

And knelt beside the sea

I told her

' I have fallen in love '

The sea replied

' I can tell '

' How? ' said I

She replied;

' I have birthed many sons and daughters and none,

None have as much depth as the endlessness in which I now see in your eyes '

The boy got up and took in the afternoon breeze

Whispering;

' I have been dragged under, my desire now an anchor,

an anklet which I cannot unchain myself from

The sea looking toward the setting sun replied;

' Then be drowned by it, if you wish

As long as your death is one worth emulating

I enjoyed the conversation between the sea and the boy about the depth of his feelings. Sometimes falling in love can swamp you and make you feel as though you are drowning. Carry on experimenting.
