Now

Now

A Poem by Patrick Ramsey
"

Reflection on perspective

"

Life is now.

Yesterday has passed.

Tomorrow isn’t.

Life is experiencing.

Yesterday is memory.

Tomorrow is hope or dread.

Now I sense, show, manifest, receive.

Yesterday I worked and wasted.

Tomorrow I destroy my hope for the future.

Experience is how I perceive it.

Yesterday I’ve remember differently than it was, again and again.

Tomorrow, my expectations will be lost, experiences felt, and past created.

Is now what I want?

How do I make now happy?

How do I make past and future less present in now?

This is a very thought provoking poem Patrick. Past, present and future covers most of life. It occurred to me that I got a feeling of having been counseled after reading this but it struck me that your future hopes are quite negative. My own favourite poem that i keep coming back to is to a mouse by our Scottish poet Robert burns - the best laid plans 'of mice and men' gang aft agley (astray) - i guess Steinbeck liked it!
All the best,
Alan

I do think that when you are in the 'present moment' you don't worry about the past or future. I suppose what it actually means, is, when you are actively engaged with what you are doing ( even meditating or resting) your mind is fully occupied. I think you are right - 'Now I sense, show, manifest, receive.' ie. being 'aware'. But I do like to go back to my memories. With a little bit of analysis and understanding it is possible to make even the worst ones into a learning experience. As you say, 'Life is experiencing'. But I think you may be a bit wrong about your tomorrow . 'Tomorrow I destroy my hope for the future.' Well, yes, in a sense, but thank goodness we don't know what the heck will happen tomorrow! My goodness, you wonderful philosophical poem, got me rattling on! I hope your 'now' becomes more and more happy.
