Makes a Stone

Makes a Stone

A Poem by Patrick B Vince
"

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger contest entry

"

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger

by leaving behind scar tissue

and a heart held together with paperclips

From finding out that fire dose burn

ignited by the recesses of the mind

Ingesting the crude reality of life

while regurgitating our childhood fantasies

Consistent slaps to face, jabs to the side

compassion's bled dry

inside humanity dies

leaving a shell with an insatiable hunger

and an emptiness in the eyes

yes, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger

but so much less alive
