A Meadow of Thistles

A Meadow of Thistles

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

As I splashed in Puddles of Earth's summer Rain...
I became a Goldfinch with soft yellow feathers
looking for seeds to nourish my fledglings...
Row after Row of Thistles and wild whistles
from bold and bright Coneflowers singing Hallelujah...
Hydrangeas covered with morning Dew played
Forever Blue as bumble bees from honey combs
buzzed and Sweet Adeline  softly sighed...

I always feel such peace and wholesomeness wash over me whenever i read your poems! They remind me of the cottagecore aesthetic that is so popular at the moment. It's interesting how the older generations (who are now in their 40s and 50s) dreamt of bigger cars and houses and all sorts of luxuries and the younger 20-30 year olds, who had those luxuries while growing up, are slowly realising how empty that capitalist rat race is.
All i yearn for is a quiet life with a small warm home and a huge garden! Your words are beautiful 🩷🌷 especially the goldfinch feeding her fledglings. There's nothing stronger and more beautiful than maternal love. Animal and bird moms are adorable!! My sister's cat had kittens recently and it was a lovely sight 🥰😍

A meadow of thistles would surely be a sight to behold .. maybe not the best place to hold the annual nudist BBQ & dance but it would be a whole lot prettier .. and what a sight for sore eyes hydrangea blue & swathes of cornflowers would be too .. All in all a real treat & a gentle one at that Pat .. Neville 🪻

I was ten years old in Memphis, Tennessee, hiding beneath a low canopy of vines when a cloud of gold finches flew in to investigate the thistles above the leaves. In those days a flock of them was an occasional delight, but it has been many years since I've seen any. Just a memory of young magic.

Your poem is amazingly visual and inspiring - especially the thistle part, Pat!

Lovely:
