Chickadee and Red-headed Woodpecker Song

Chickadees with black Caps appear when  

Winter is harbouring berries red and plump... 

The Music of a Brass Band rings loud and clear  

as Red-headed Woodpeckers Chime into the 

Beat of Kettle Drums along the sleeping Rivers 

 of Weeping Willow boughs as the Snow shimmers  

and we become entranced in the Romance of Winter...

I've always favored winter, simply for the snow. I have squirrels that I feed every day, and I wonder how they keep themselves safe from the colder temps and inclement weather. I haven't seen or heard my mourning doves in quite a while. They're due to start mating again in the spring on through October. Nature and nurture. That's what it's all about.

dearest Kelly… I remember that you grew up in Maryland.. as did I myself. In the Fifties it snowed every Winter and the Ponds would freeze over, and locals could often Ice-scate. We loved the Snow. Now we have retired to Fredericksburg, Virginia by the Rappahannock River. My daughter Edie (named after my Mother Edith) and her family live in Virginia Beach and my Son Robert and his family now live in Norfolk, Virginia. I also feed the Squirrels Peanuts unsalted in the Shell to divert their attention to the Sunflower seeds on the wide Wooden Deck Railing outside are large Kitchen Window. The Mourning Doves and Red Cardinals are our main Birds that reside close by. We do have other Birds visit. One Spring.. we had Blue Birds with Peach Breasts in a Group on branches upstairs outside our Bedroom Window. I know the West Coast is beautiful also. There are many “Wonders” everywhere. Hugs, Pat

dear Linda Marie… yes, Cardinals are the Spirit of our loved ones… and very Spiritual in meaning. It is unusual to see Chickadees and Red-headed Woodpeckers in Winter… the contrast of eating together is so Special.
