The captain drinks rum? There's no telling what harbor that ship is going to sail into. Once upon a time in real history, every sailor was allotted a certain amount of rum as part of his pay. I'd venture that made for some more than interesting voyages. The rum ration on board Royal Navy ships of the line was not abolished until 1970. Those Tahitian maidens sound fascinating. Nicely wrought poem. F.

This poem creates a sense of adventure and excitement, using the imagery of pirates, islands, and the open sea to capture the reader's imagination. The lines "Winter settles in and Skies are tossed around with / Licorice clouds... we imagine that we were captured / by Pirates searching for Gold" create a sense of danger and intrigue, inviting the reader to imagine themselves in the midst of a thrilling adventure.
The poem also touches on the theme of dreaming and imagination, using the imagery of masts tied down and the captain drinking rum to create a sense of fantasy and escape. The line "and we are Dreamers" highlights the ways in which the natural world can inspire and uplift us, encouraging us to explore new horizons and embrace the unknown.
Finally, the poem celebrates the beauty and wonder of the natural world, using the imagery of palm trees, coconuts, and mango trees to create a sense of warmth and abundance. The line "and Mango trees in the Breeze..." captures the magic and mystery of the island landscape, inviting the reader to experience its beauty and wonder for themselves.
Overall, this is a fun and exciting poem that celebrates the power of imagination, the beauty of the natural world, and the thrill of adventure.

Those swashbucklers were fun to watch on TV growing up. Always adventurous, always looking for the treasure, they seemed to enjoy every minute of their sea sailing. It's funny that whenever I think of pirates, I always see the sun shining on some island.
Wonderful poem, Patricia. :)

Your imagination has taken you on a flight of fantasy here, Patricia. It made me think of all the pirate films I have enjoyed from the Golden Years of Hollywood. I like the idea of Licorice clouds.....a clever description and a tasty one as well!
I enjoyed your seafaring journey today.
