Nuthatches must surely rank amongst my favourite species .. they are the only bird that can walk or run up and down a tree trunk .. mind you, since I am something of a horneythologist (I shall have to stop using that one) .. I am quite partial to Ravens too & of course the dark side with which they are so oft juxtaposed .. sending a seasonal hug and a tickle on the tum with a tawny owl's velvet primary ... Neville

Another well painted picture of your feathered friends, Patricia. You must have quite a collection of avian visitors where you reside.
You must be the first Ornithologist poet I have come across. Your understanding and ability to identify various species and write about them is outstanding. Apple trees are a wonderful place to raise a brood, indeed.

Pollinate each other. In the Spring the Apple blossoms were so soft and Pink. Reminded me of the 🎶 Song .. “Don’t sit under the Apple Tree with anyone else, but Me”. tenderly, Pat

Oh how I loved reading this one of yours and read and reread it several times... I felt I was actually there.
It has been awhile since I have been on the Cafe... My life got extremely busy but I promised myself a couple of hours to get back into reading and writing...so here I am.

A haven is that Apple Tree. A home filled with warmth and security and from where generations of beautiful birds find their wings. And yet, their Song from a Poem by Edgar Allen Poe... portend the dangers, the predators, lurking outside their home, their solace. A poem of such a breathtaking picture painted of Nature, in both its benevolence and its perils. Kudos to you, dear Pat!

The Raven, my second favorite bird, (nothing matches the Swallows)
We are overrun with squirrels and Ravens
Have finally just given up on a squirrel solution and now let nature do its thing
They keep the owls fed and give my Maltese a sense of chase-a-thong superiority.
on another note, my spelling/typing is so bad that too often, my spell checker has no idea what the hell I am trying to express.

Their brood may well be the change that we seek, as they learn to brighten our lives, little by little, generation by generation and put their old and set in their way parents to shame. Maybe even evolve a bit of brightness and colour.
