Hi Pat,
Had to go through many of your poems to find one I had not read..
Love the title of this lovely poem of yours...
Dedicating a poem to a loved relative is so so wonderful...
words like axing smile make me think of my wonderful father (died at 96) and his smile..this brings tears to my eyes..
Lisa, going to the beach this morning.. only 4 minutes away...first time this year!!

Such a sweet poem dedicated to a loved one! Flows nicely and the imagery puts the reader there on a cold winter day seeking the warmth of home and being with family. Very nicely done. Temp

Dave worked in the Coal mines in West Virginia. When their youngest son was ten years old, Dave bought Forty Acres with a Farm House for a Song 🎶 in Delaware and the children had their share to build homes when they married. A remarkable Man. He and his oldest Son worked for the Railroad based in Wilmington, Delaware (about twenty miles from the family Farm). Thank you for your lovely Review. gently, Pat
This is a beautiful tribute, Patricia. Sometimes we don't realize how short time is and what an impact people have on our lives. Especially after they're gone.

We pulled Vines and made a Path. Eventually we sold it to an adjoining Neighbor and He planted Eggplants and such for his Italian Restaurant in Wilmington. He had a very large Red Barn to keep his Horses and Cattle. I Ran with the Llamas in the Fueld and played with the Emus he bought at the County Fair… there were Goats with Milk and so the Story unfolds. Thank you for your tender Review. gently, Pat
I had an old man talk to me once about "my generation" and how we didn't know the meaning of hard work etc. so on and so forth. So I told him about my own childhood with no running water, sawing logs and splitting wood to stay warm, working in fields from dawn to dusk all Spring and summer, digging toilet holes through red rock with a pick and mattock, carrying water a few hundred yards away from a spring to drink and fill mother's tubs so she could wash our clothes. Living on beans, onions and "taters" mostly year round with spring water to wash it down. Sleeping under hand made quilts a foot deep in winter and waking up in the freezing cold to get a fire going in the wood stove. When I finished he said, well, you might know a little more than most. Yes, the good ole days...hoping Christmas would bring us some fresh fruit, nuts or peppermints. We didn't have a Victrola but we had an old Philco radio that picked up WLAC in Nashville on a clear night. I still remember John R. advertising baby chickens for sale. My own grandpa was mean as a rattlesnake and if you knocked on his door you'd hear, "State your name and business!" and if you had no answer the next sound you'd hear would be a shotgun being cocked and a mean cur dog growling. He dipped snuff with a willow twig "brush" and always had it dripping from his lip. So nasty. Grandma baked and cooked on a wood stove and they heated their parlor with chunks of coal. They always had a coal bucket full and a big coal pile out back. Grandpa thought that was the height of prosperity. He drove a big brown livestock truck and farmed 80 acres of land with mules at one time, later he sold most of it off and got a tractor. He wore Red Camel overalls to church and a round, canvas covered, hard hat when he farmed. I don't have many fond recollections of my childhood other than trying to survive but where I came from, everybody else was in the same condition. We knew all our neighbors and they all knew each other. I don't know the folks who live next door to me now.

Thank you for sharing your childhood. My Grandparents were Proud to work hard.... The Immigrants that enter our Country now...should work just as hard . I was born in 1940 and I have also worked very hard to accomplish everything. As in the Book "The Tale of Two Cities"... we live in the best of times and in the worst of times. Every day we are in "mourning" for our Country... and we feel so much Grief about Ukraine being destroyed. The entire World could keep building their ow Country and we could all share our Resources. Sometime.s people have the Brain of a Beetle. Wishing you a Soothing Spring. Lovely to read your words. truly, Pat
