Dreams of Painted Iris under Winter Snow

Dreams of Painted Iris under Winter Snow

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

When Moonlight beams in Nocturnal Nights...
I see the smiling faces of Ballerinas in Tights...
Their Iris Petals in Colors of Lavender Blue...
I am mesmerized by the Colors in your Eyes...
The snowy clouds will soon fade away and
Summer days will play Lullabies when
Bearded Iris dance in the Spring-time Rain...
The blending of Hearts in Valentine Tarts
will wake the tastebuds of a Meadow Lark...

Light mesmerizes us, as do the colours of the moonbeams. Eyes are like the stars and the moon, they remind us why we need their dancing light. This poem makes me so grateful for all the wonders of nature and the universe surrounding us, the summer, the snow, the clouds and the bearded Iris dance in the spring-time rain. You write so beautifully always, my friend. Wishing you blessed days ahead.

Walking along the riverside one autumn night we say a heron's figure in the dappling moonlit flowing water. With that I imagine with wide-eyed wonder as this nocturnal poem unfolds. There were silver reeds dancing in the breeze and although not bearded irises gave quite their own impressive show. Peaceful and aesthetically pleasing, thanks Pat for sharing. Was it Iris scent that Cleopatra used to dip her sails into, so people would smell that perfume as she sailed the Nile

In the city of Joplin, Iris are planted everywhere. At night, when the streets go quiet, their perfume fills the air like fragrant ghosts. One can almost see fairies dancing in the flower beds. The saddest thing I ever saw was a lone Iris surrounded by her fallen sisters after a hailstorm. She alone still stood. Now there's imagery for poetry.

It's a beautiful winter poem, Pat,
but I have never seen a ballerina smile....they always look so stern as they dance...
I wish they would smile like most figure skaters do.
They make such beautiful moves but look like they are in pain.
