When Spring was Green and Butterflies fluttered

When Spring was Green and Butterflies fluttered

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

In the midst of Winter Snow amongst the Cedar Trees
there were the most beautiful White Breasted
Bohemian Waxwing Sweethearts...
They gathered Red Berries for a night of Feather Fights...
The Moon and Stars were ready for a Shakespearean performance...
As the curtain went up the Stars sang Hallelujah and the Moon smiled...
The Wine of Red Berries was intoxicating and feathers fluttered while
Stars danced like Butterflies sipping the remains of the Wine...
Begin the Bequine brings back a memory when Spring was Green...

ahh those halcyon days of yore, sublimely captured here for anyone & everyone to find & to savour .. perfectly placed on the back of a pair of Bohemian Waxwings .. I have never seen one in the flesh Pat .. but am familiar with them as a species and can not imagine one without a red berry in its bill or very near ......... well penned my friend

ahhh then we both have succeeded :) Love P.
Thoughts of spring infiltrate the colder months, perhaps to let us remember that all hope is not lost in the frozen quarter and will return one day.
I must say I admit that older me and very young me are beginning to see eye to eye, as when I see naked trees now, I remember the first day of school when the trees got naked and I thought it was a harbinger of doom.
Perhaps now I understand it is the cycle of life, but it still fills me with dread that first day when leaves shed and innocence becomes a little less... Especially after it rains and they all look like soggy cornflakes 😊
Thanks for the reminder Pat, that hopes roots still grow away, unseen. And a very happy Burns night to you dear poet.

Hello dear Pat. Won't be long. Spring will come, and you are welcome.
When spring is green all memories of the cold winter disappear. Spring will soon be here and I am looking forward to daffodils and hyacinths in my garden. I love your poem about when butterflies fluttered. You have such an endearing way with your poems about our beautiful avian friends. Begin the beguine is a song but I can't remember which crooner sang it. I am sure you will be able to remind me. Thank you Pat for your poetry. Always visual, always beautiful. I love your new avatar too, of family.
