Whistle if you need me

Whistle if you need me

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

The day was Sunny and I had a funny feeling as

I was perched upon a branch of a Sycamore tree...

I myself was an olive green with feathers just preened.

as the fella started to sing, "Whistle if you need me"...

It wasn't long before we had gathered enough Thistle to

line our Nest of sky blue eggs waiting to burst open to Life...

My partner was a bright Canary Gold with a trill that soothes

the fledglings with their Beeks open wide ready to devour seeds

and the like as if they were getting prepared for First Flight.

Near-by in a Hammock of bright Red stripes was a Mistress

in distress who just wanted to rest as the fledglings grew in their nest.

The American Gold Finch will eventually rest on Coneflowers...

I call it a symphony of birds when I work in the yard trimming and listening to our great feathery friends. You are soaring in poetry as they soar high on branches. You are celebrating how to enjoy all God offers us through nature. Long live Patricia Wedel.

you write with deep appreciation of our feathered friends always, Pat; and this is not exception. Love that third line especially ... it gets the story rolling .. finches are so plentiful and wondrously painted .. so small but bodacious ... going about every day business as all good finches do... always .. the mistress waiting in the hammock isn't there!? delight to read .. i always learn about and to appreciate our aviary friends in your poetry ..

I couldn't help but smile at the unintended soundtrack accompanying this Pat, a group of confused chirps and tweets, probably asking each other what happened to day and night (currently not dark until near 10pm and light at 3am)
Or maybe it was the Mrs shilling about him being out with "her" again 😊
Perfect timing to read your words, already brought to life on the page, as I wonder of the wonder at being able to soar free any time out hearts desire. My feet would rarely touch the ground again. 😊

Imaginative, colorful and beautiful! I loved how you used the birds, because they’re such poetic animals. They’re so fun to use and you wrote them so creatively. It was a delight to read!

An imaginative portrait of nature. These moments of simple joy that reflect the world around us. And is often the reason why we ask of ourselves to take the time to just live in the moment and be absorbed by it.
