Sunflowers Stand Tall

Sunflowers Stand Tall

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Facing the East when the Sun rises...

"
Now is the time to be sequestered in Sunshine

where Sunflowers smile and are planted six inches apart...

They need plenty of Spring water as the soft rain falls.

The Goldfinch sets on Cone Flowers perched for hours...

dreaming of their favorite black oiled sunflower seeds.

The Mourning Doves are always close by to offer Prayers

for all the Migrants that fly to higher ground until the

Seeds appear with berries and Fruit to nourish the children

who fled and crossed the Rio Grande for a better life...

Hello, Patricia! :)
This is lovely and thoughtful. I don't understand why we had a war on kindness, why the USA would choose cruelty toward children. I'm hopeful that the new government will find a better solution.

I love how you begin with the imagery and growth of sunflowers, then move to the birds who nourish from their seeds, and then you bring in the Mourning Doves ( who I love) to pray and nourish those poor , hungry children and adults who crave some nourishment upon crossing the river to higher ground . This is so well done Pat, I love how you present the birds as helpers to mankind. Best always,
Betty

opening setting and scene so very Wedel! ;) such simple straight forward language a bit of a surprise; but I was enjoying so much your description of Spring and Summer with sunflowers and all attracted to its fruit .. the turn really took me by surprise ... it is a tragic and incredibly dangerous thing parents and smugglers and traffickers are doing at the boarder. Our President and his Administration is deaf and blind and thinks we are all dumb. President Biden directly caused this by telling the world that children will be kept here and taken care of instead of putting them on flights back to their country of origin. Those hands safer by far than those that are sending them here unaccompanied. Instead of working with Mexico to have those caught that are seeking asylum wait in Mexico .. we are once again catching them and simply letting them go ... with a Court date that is no show day. Its an insanity .. those children are being used and abused from start to finish .. more illegally entered people last month than in 20 yrs. 172,000!!! Where is President Biden's head at??? President did put some solid policy in place and his border policy is one of them .. why oh why can not the Democrats admit it and build on it instead of creating this abominable and dangerous situation for all ... and during a pandemic no less ... sorry Pat; but this has me burning and steaming from the collar. Nice poem by the way :)

oh my this is so good...playing on two ideas simultaneously. The idea of the children crossing the border and the pandemic...six inches to mean six feet...and the idea of being sequestered in sunshine, rather than being in dark solitude.
well done.
