Dressed for the Theatre

Dressed for the Theatre

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Formal attire in the latest fashion...

"
An Invitation to the Kennedy Center...

Formal but not overstated we danced down

the long Hall to be seated at the pleasure of

Aristocrats with their wives dressed in Pearls and

dangling diamonds with emerald and gold...

It was foretold that the Russian Ballet would perform

starring Rudolf Nureyev and Anna Pavlova...

My lover and I were well feathered and versed

in the movements of Swan Lake and the dying

Swan.... we had seen the performance in Paris...

Anna Pavlova with her dedication and talent was

the most famous Russian ballet dancer ever.

We were mellow having had Wine of Red Berries

before our flight over the Potomac in the Nations Capitol.

A stunning evening at the JFK Center. In all the years living on the east coast, I've never been the the Center. You show us a dreamy evening all bedecked with gowns and jewels and a lovely description of Swan Lake, which I have seen many times in NYC.
Take good care, sending good wishes,
Betty

I bet that was one hell of an experience. My second ex, with whom I am still close friends, is a dancer. She came from NY and did lots of ballet in her younger days.
Even several years ago here, I went to see her dance in Romeo and Juliet...ballet. she played Lady Capulet.
Beautiful...I used to go watch rehearsals because I liked watching the process of the dances, and then later seeing the end product.
what a thrill this must have been, to see the best.
thanks for sharing, Pat,
j.

Hello dear Pat and I do agree. I need music.
This is one of the best of your poems I've ever read. The sheer titillation of your anticipation is pouring forth from your words. As you know, I'd rather go to an outdoor picnic than a hoity-toity indoor performance but your sparkling description is so humble yet effective, it could make a bear deign to traipse inside for some twinkly toes of an evening. The best part is your storytelling magic . . . you lead us thru the experience in so many detailed & palpable ways (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Your poem was and is a 'must', Pat. I love the Theatre for all its moods and performances so, reading your words, could see how it could be in Paris amongst those finely dressed people. But, the audience can never be as fine as the dancers on stage.. their elegance and energy are second only if not more to athletes. Reading a second time, sense a flight into another world.. and magical, visual and lovely.

Whenever you have a minute.. but no hurry, dear one. x
I have never seen a ballet performance live, only on TV. I have seen Swan Lake though, and adored the whole performance. Swans, mate for life. I am reminded of their beauty and elegance on the river. The Russian ballet performance must have been an incredible experience. You two lovebirds dressed up to the hilt, on an occasion that you would never forget. Thank you dear Pat for sharing with us.

We do not get that bird in our area and I have to say it is one of the most beautiful I've seen and certainly worthy of a P. Wedel poem.
