Sleigh All Day

Sleigh All Day

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

All bundled up from head to toe...

We climbed up the Hill with our

Red Sleds in tow in the newly fallen Snow...

The bright Red Cardinals were flying around

like The Red Baron in his Airplane seeking Adventure.

We could hear the Sleigh Bells as Neighbors were

on their way to worship at the Church in the Valley.

Red Poinsettas smiled as we glided down into

a Wonderland of glistening ice cycles like

Chimes in the midst of heavenly bliss.

Snow Angels kissed each little Sparrow

where seeds of blessings were sprinkled...

This brought me back to my childhood, Pat. I remember dragging my sled to the top of the hill to ride down....total happiness and all smiles. my daddy would sometimes sit on the sled with me. Nice memories. This season seems to bring us all back to a simpler happier time! Your poem is a lovely happy snapshot, Pat. Lydi**

Ah how lovely when a poem creates wonderful images and brings back memories of happy days.
How i would love the new generation to be able to make such memories ... maybe with a little faith they will :)

This poet has a talent for recreating a scene from the past and placing the reader in the middle of it. The very descriptive language almost makes us feel the nip in the air. It is like looking at an old style Christmas card.

Poinsettias must be most iconic holiday symbol for me. They're such a contrast to all else in the backdrop (barren white snow for some, still brown falling leaves for others). They stand out & say: Look at me! Look at me! That's how it is with every single fawna/flora you personify in your poems & this one is no slouch in that department. Mentioning the "Red Baron" really pops with childhood remembrance, adding to the otherwise childlike wonder you convey from top to bottom. Haven't had a winter scene like this myself, but you make me feel as if I'm there! Here's wishing a bright poinsettia week for you as you soak in the sacred run-up to Christmas (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is glorious music in the form of glorious poetry dear Pat. Artwork is precious. Every line and image like Christmas gifts just opened. Love all the red in your images and references to Cardinals and of course my favorite- Snoopy & The Red Baron!

And I would still be joining in with them if it weren't for the fear of being the "in other news" part of the news, where someone that should have more sense are airlifted to the jigsaw hospital where they put people back together again.
I ever do learn though, so remember to watch the news all the way through to the end 😊

This poem has such a Christmassy feel about it Pat, and yet it takes me back five years. That was the last time I went sledding. Climbed the hills of our valley with our grandchildren and went whizzing down I did with Robbie behind me. Exhilarating, funny, and my cheeks were rosy red with cold. I love the way you bring nature into your lines, especially our avian friends. Thank you for bringing that memory back. It was delightful. Take care dear poet.
