Dear Pat, you cover the seasons like a plein air painting, with colors washing over a canvass of wheat and corm, apples and peaches, such vivid images come to me as if I am there with you sharing all these memories. You must be a birder, because you know the names of so many, and their sounds as well.
Love this poem...an ode to the seasons. Best, Betty

I have always loved birds, and now I can see many of them on the railing of our Deck outside the Kitchen window. A year ago, there was actually an Owl sitting there... looking straight at me. We have lots of bright Red Cardinals all year long (the females are a brownish grey with a hint of red. I discovered the meaning of "plain air painting)
(thanks to you) and learned that Claude Monet's paintings were Outdoors which would be plain air paintings. So much to learn and so little time. Birds and Blooms Magazine is worth subscribing to. So many colored photos and Articles. Thank you again... now I will go to sleep... peaceably. tenderly, Pat

You've brought new sensory definition to a trek thru the winter (or autumn) of one's life! I feel like I've got one foot in autumn & the other in winter! *wink! wink!* It's hard not to long for one of the seasons that's not available to us anymore! But that's the beauty of poetry . . . we can immerse in whatever season we get a hankerin' for! Or, like you often do, immersing in more than one season at a time, not to mention fluttering among multiple featheries and a plethora of fawna & flora. This poem, as with most of your poetry, is an example of abundance. It's like saying, yeah I'm deep into winter now, but "ALL THIS!" If only more people could set up their life's equation like this! Happy new year! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Oh, how we long to those magical days of youth and vibrancy. How we feel the effects of the seasons on us. We sing with the birds the songs of love and laughter. Your poetry is a feast and a Holiday treat. Happy Holidays.

May you always be blessed with many gifts. You are welcome.
I am definitely feeling my winter approaching, but this transported me back to my youth...Vermont...the sounds of the Bob Whites, and the Whippoorwills....and the mooing cows...and the days that seem to last forever.
thank you for this, Pat,

Yes, the years change everything and the "songs" of youth are not quite the same when we get older. The imagery you employ is so vivid, my friend. The colors of your soul are like a kaleidoscope! Wonderful to read your words....so filled with hope and uplifting. Lydi**

Beautiful nature imagery notwithstanding, this one is about the human spirit and the passage of life. Summer is the first season mentioned, and it stands for youth and young love. Following are autumn and then winter, not in that order. Spring is not discussed except as a hope, which tells me it symbolizes the renewal of life after the physical existence has passed. Thus we have not only a poem, but a statement of faith.

First of all, the first line, "in the winter of my life, " wow. What a way to start a poem, story or anything for that matter. The rest of the poem was beautiful and glowed so well with its imagery and passion for it. I enjoyed this read. Wonderfully explained and expressed, Pat. Tyfs
