The strength of Motherhood

The strength of Motherhood

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

A Mother bird forages for food as she

flies through meadows and lofty woods...

along bubbling brooks where mushrooms grow

in warm sunny spots on dampened moss...

High in a Sycamore tree there is a nest where

five wee beeks are open wide waiting for

a delicious worm that was born to nourish

fledglings and even to catch a sunfish on a

string and a pole where time was spent at

a water hole where little boy blue and a

pink bonnet girl gathered their dreams in a

wicker basket full of sunflower seeds for

busy Mother birds with hungry fledglings...

This is a truly beautiful world and I sit here reading it again and again, taking in a mother's universal quest among bubbling brooks and sycamore trees. The pink and blue clad cherubs giving a helping hand to nature. Your words renew the reader's faith on the earth and it's myriad of creatures...

A lovely way to show the strength of motherhood; Birds are so delicate it is an excellent choice. You show the care and closeness of motherhood, making sure her young ones are fed and are cuddled in the same way we, as humans, take care of our newborns...and as they grow and can be on their own. You always pick the very best vivid words to show your readers.
Great! Best, Betty

So wonderful, a mother is always a mother with open arms and a caring heart to embrace and nourish her children. Be it mother nature or mother bird. Your poem's beauty lies in the fact that a mother is relentlessly doing her job with so much affection... A brook, mosses or mushrooms or a sycamore tree all are the blessings of that mother earth....

Nice how each little animal or bird has its place and hat's off to the mothers, they do a great job.

A wonderful poem shared dear Pat. I love the wonders of nature. I pay attention to the birds. When the birds are quiet and hiding. Bad weather is coming. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Birds are more wise than we believe and you are welcome dear Pat.
Breakfast made from scratch and delivered, all without the aid of an app, and they even spend the day teaching, informing and entertaining even their human audience in poetic song. I’m just glad I’m not the worm in this scenario Pat 😀

Yes last week everyday was 75 or better, but the last two nights have been in the 30's
there is so much hunger in the world, so many mothers doing everything possible to feed their young.
We use a worm to catch fish, we dangle this little morsel in front of them, then trap them.
I think our politicians fish for votes, among the poorer people, promising worms, and then just hooking them....under false pretenses.
Mothers protect...politicians neglect.

Human parents do a whole bunch for their offspring, but nothing beats the way birds parent! I love watching the various nature documentaries showing how damn selfless bird parenting is. I have a DVD of snowy owls, with mom fending off polar bears from her ground-level nest & dad flying miles to find fresh rodents by the hundreds every day! If this is what it takes to parent, then I'm not cut out for it! No wonder I never wanted to become a parent. Your title sums it up perfectly (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
