Butterflies and Summer's End

Butterflies and Summer's End

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

Butterflies travel far as if they came from a Star

whereupon flowers were only seen when the Heavens

planted Marigolds on Mars and Venus grew Cosmic orange Cosmos...

A black winged butterfly with bright blue spots sipped nectar

from the Blue Bells in their sunny Bed of Buttercups...

Now the leaves are feeling the cool wind as butterflies

follow their guiding Star to warmer climes where

flowers in pretty gowns are calling for the tender sips of

butterflies and honey bees to reminesce of the good 'old days.

You know I love butterflies. I watch them sucking the nectar out of butterfly bushes we have planted in our garden. The imagery in your poem is so lovely, Pat. There is a circle of life we all know and we have to appreciate the beauty of nature realizing it is cyclical! Lydi**

Nature has it's own way of travelling through the seasons and it's always a little sad when summer ends and the kids go back to school and the cold sets in. Nice to look back on the good old days and feel their warmth.

Quite welcome, Pat. :)
Your poem speaks of some things that must come to an end and other things begin. Where did they come from? Where are they going? The author takes us on a journey of discovery and appreciation in her own marvelous ways.
