Dear Pat we have our bunting that will be out out today to mark the 75th anniversary of VE day. My thoughts will be with those who lost their lives preserving our freedom, our wonderful servicemen and women. I will also be thinking of my grandparents and my parents and what a joyous day that must have been for them after years of destruction, hardship and death.
I am picturing your garden here, hearing those wood thrushes and seeing those double peony blooms. I also have a peony that has been in our flower bed for years. Beautiful heads they have.
Thank you for this memorial poem. We have a Bank Holiday today. Unusual for us to have one on a Friday.
I will make a point of looking at the super moon.
Sending you the warmest of wishes Pat.
Chris

I must admit I adore Peonies, but have only enjoyed the scent and beauty in other Gardens. I will soon this year or next year grow my own. Thank you for sharing your Memorial Day with a different name. Of course we have Mothers Day this Sunday coming. I will celebrate my Mother who has passed, and I miss her more and more. She loved children and flowers. I just read "Victory in Europe" Day... marking the day towards the end of
War World II. I was born in 1940, so my relatives experienced a lot. By the way, I have seen Wood Thrush at our feeders. Thanks for sharing and reading my humble poem. Our weather is unpredictable, however, it was Sunny today.
Love across the Pond. truly, Pat

Yes celebrate her loving memory Pat. My own dear mum is in a nursing home two hundred miles away. Each day I am fearful for her with this wretched virus claiming many of our older folk in residential and nursing homes. I talk to her on the phone and I am happy that she is in her own world and doesn't know too much about what is going on elsewhere. One of her carers arranged a video call last week which was wonderful, although it confused my mum a bit. However it was lovely to see her face and she was smiling at me. Lovely sunny morning here. Take care Pat.
This is so interesting, about the two-note trill! Wow! I feel I've been educated, plus the analogy is irresistible, as it applies to life. We could all do with a little more harmony & fewer discordant notes being blasted at high volume. I understand that you're celebrating Memorial Day in the traditional way, but I also like to add a big thank-you to first responders, since so many of our threats these days come from within & the first responders play a huge role -- as big as the military -- with regards to keeping us safe & free. I wish they would change these holidays to include first-responders. But that's just my soapbox talking. Thanks for always presenting everyday human concerns in terms of the wild creatures that can only speak truth (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
A wonderful poem shared. I go early to the Memorial day service. This year a older man played the military song "Taps". The last song played for the soldier. Thank you dear Pat for sharing the amazing poetry.

this is so touching for me... I live in a small coastal community and for 80 years the Azalea Festival on Memorial day week end has opened the summer season.. this year would have been the 81st.. it has been the only week end that I have closed my business and taken part in the community events.. but not this year.. I will be closed but there will be no festival and not Marine Corp dance.. and no open house at the Coast guard station.. and.. I am reminded of the title of a movie.. "things we lost in the fire" I never saw the movie but I seem to have lost a lot lately.. today I am trying to learn how to grieve well.. no bodies if you don't count the collateral damage.. but the sea birds sing a beautiful morning song and I too honor and have deep gratitude to those who have and continue to keep us safe while we struggle to survive..

Seems that whether a day is officially special at present.. Mothering Sunday or Mothers' day or a celebration of the end of WW2.. each day becomes more and more precious. It truly is the time to hear the songs of free flying birds, to inhale the scent of beautiful flowers - in fact to see and feel the beauty still existing in this gone crazy world. Your words are so welcome, they turn us from a wall to an open space, dear petal.. thank you so very much.

dearest Fran... a lovely review and God Bless America and the entire World. tenderly, Pat
a double song, one of sorrow for those lost, but also one of fierce pride for the wonderful servicemen who both risk and give their lives for their country.
but also ironic...when we think about the double song, the harmony...that is not at this time because we are all singing a silent song in isolation...
beautiful, stirring piece of writing.
