I adore Robins. We have them nesting in our garden at the moment Pat. So busy collecting juicy grubs to feed their young. Their nest is hidden in the ivy trailing over a boundary fence. I enjoyed your lines so much. Beautiful imagery, particularly of those pastry pieces being left for the robins by thoughtful mom after her baking was complete. Plenty of nostalgia in this write. I thought of my own Nan and her love of birds. I just love the joy that these little creatures share with us. These little creatures can lift your spirits on a dull day. I can picture your Robins dancing to Brahms. What a delight that is. Sending you and yours warm greetings from across the pond Pat. In these days of lockdown we are spending most of our time in our garden. Thank goodness for nature.

Altho I love your poem in regards to robins specifically, I am reminded of how I watch the skittering activities of ALL the wild creatures as if studying for my next life exam. Even tho you often write about birds, in this poem especially, I see you making a subtle suggestion that we could all do well to focus on so many little treats & delights that spill forth from each day, in contrast to the current climate of political fomenting! I try to "peanuts in the shell" to divert their attention, however, they first have to eat all the Sunflower seed (mainly for the Cardinals)... before they carry away as many shelled peanuts as they can... not certain where they take them. Also the squirrels will eat all the sunflower seeds they can... and then they eat the shelled peanuts. It is quite a "Show"... but expensive.
I just read that you have to make an opening that is too big for crows and ravens and squirrels. My husband is not a Carpenter... but I could learn to be.

There are various sized drill bits that can make any good sized holes that easily do or don't accommodate squirrels or any size bird.
I'll make up a container (?) constructed in cedar, to your spec's and ship it down to you, if you handle all the fees and costs associated with the Tarzan bo-de-o start-up, production and distribution
Then we can share the profits
I know, I know, generosity is my middle name!!

I do need a way to have a feeder that only Cardinals and perhaps Chickadees could get into. Blue Jays can also be very aggressive also. It seems that this August my son and his family may live with us for a year or so. Robert is very handy with building shelves and so forth. He probably can help me with a Good Feeder. I do appreciate your Offer. You are generous. I appreciate knowing there must be a way to keep the Crows and Squirrels from devouring the expensive Oiled Sunflower Seeds. Of course if I planted Sunflowers then I fought that Squirrelsvor Crows would climb up the Ling Stemsvto est the Seeds.... but then you never know... do you? Life is a Rubicks Cube for the most part. truly, Pat

The squirrels have definitely tried but the location and the type/size of feeder does not work for them, neither for Blue Jays or Crows
Anything larger than a Towhee or Grossbeak is out of luck
Good luck with it all!

Like Christine, I just adore the beautiful little robin. So cheeky, so full of confidence, and as we have two bird tables in our garden, we have plenty of feathered friends who visit, including robins.
Don't think we have them nesting, but they are clever little things at hiding their nests, so, you never know.
A lovely, uplifting poem to read in these troubled times.
