Once upon a Winter Moon

Once upon a Winter Moon

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

I found you in the atmosphere

where images pass by when lovers dream...

Venus the Evening Star has disappeared and

left her poems with sleeping feathered friends...

The Nightingale has sung her song with mellow chords

of memories spent when love was discontent...

Juniper drops her music when she sings of summer rain.

How could I dance when there is no romance...

I will fly through storms and search the Universe

to discover every path you took and then find the

place where Oceans meet and greet the Moon's lament...

Dear Pat you alway have such divine poetic expression. You took this reader with you. It wasn't just what I visualised in your lines, but the way your poetry makes me feel. This one reached the core of me. Where the moon and the ocean meet and the silver dance floor beckons, who could not dance to the tune of that romance. Lovely dear poet.

A magic carpet ride of romance, Pat. The longing for one who is not near you is palpable. When the love is real, distance makes no difference. Such a sweet love poem. Lydi**

I love the bittersweet reality of your scene. There are traces of the different seasons under a winter moon, which gives the idea one's mind is wandering back thru a variety of past possibilities. I love how even a love depicted as "discontent" is still a love that can stir one's heart upon a cold withering night. I love the haunting quality of your scene, where reflecting on bittersweet moments is an irresistible lure, even tho a rocky stroll. We humans rarely have smooth sailing & the big waves are the ones we remember most often, I guess! Here's hoping your Valentine's Day inspires more excellent writing to entertain & soothe us! Pat, I imagine these splendid images and emotions streaming as the lover lies on her back, lost in the stars on a clear night. We feel the loneliness and longing in your poem, but the heart is a steady and determined traveler. A magical journey in a poem, Pat.
