Good morning. Had to Google " wassailing" Once done brought back memories, happy long ago memories, of trying to scrounge money by knocking doors and Carol singing, this often fruitless and us sent packing with "clear off" ringing in our lugs.
Merry Christmas Patricia

however, we so far have been spared a lot of shoveling and driving in the Snow. Now in early March of 2020, we have some trees with gorgeous orchid like bloddomd in Virginia, USA. I must discover the exact name of this tree. Usually it is at least early May before most trees blossom. May your Spring bring the best blossoms ever. truly, Pat

Quick and without breath, a promising piece, one to re-read again and again.

Wassailing . . . new word for me! Love it when someone challenges me with words! I love how your wassailing is reminiscent of, but does not reflect the typical winter/holiday festivities . . . especially when you point out how the frozen pond is where swans would glide . . . such a small observation brings a plethora of imagery surrounding how this pond has gone from swan to skates. A hidden comparison to other times . . . these are the little sparks that light up your writing! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I noticed that 'wassailing' has a double meaning and if the two meanings were combined, the singing portion (?) could end up way off key
Good Christmas cheering poem
Hope U R enjoying the season

and involved a "toast" to good health. Depending on the recipe, such as warm Figs and warm cooked Apples... to drink to your health; one could be a bit tipsy. It also became known as singing Carols for Christmas. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year. truly, Pat
"Bring us some figgy pudding and bring it out here! We won't go until we get some..." I remember the first time I heard that song and thought, oh my, but that's sort of a demanding attitude to take at Christmas. But many much stranger traditions exist I suppose. I don't think folks bother to carol anymore. They prefer to stay home and warm their feet on their own hearth. Great holiday verse... although my minuet is rather rusty.

I hope there will always be Toasts to our Good Health and also the singing of Christmas Carols. I heard a modern version of many of the old Christmas songs, such as Silent Night. Because the voices were so lovely with tenors and the like... It was very touching and heart-felt. It seems so many children and adults have flu and illness with changes in weather... that Caroling is not as popular or practical. But "thank goodness".. there are still evening Programs at Schools (in the auditoriums to enjoy the Instrumental and Vocal
voices of the young people for Music of the Season.

My (very introverted) stepdaughter had recently attended a party with my granddaughter of whom is gregarious and will talk to anyone... LOL it is like watching a laurel and hardy skit when they interact in public! I bring this up because this party involved all of the kids (unbeknownst to my stepdaughter) caroling throughout the neighborhood. When the girls arrived back at my store after the party the little one was so exuberant talking about the songs and the people and cookies and mom with her unlit candle in hand was leaning against the wall mortified:? LOL some were made for wassailing and others withdrawal
