Butterflies and Autumn Skies

Butterflies and Autumn Skies

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Discoveries on an October day

"
Along the sand dunes where wildflowers grow

I spoke to a Scare crow (needing a Brain) who was dressed in

straw-covered clothes... jeans and a red plaid shirt...

I asked him if he had seen the Lion and he answered...

"He is very cowardly and dived into the Wagon of Straw".

So I inquired if he knew the whereabouts of the Tin Man.

I was told that now he had a heart and was looking for Romance.

We danced around the Autumn leaves where Acorns were

falling around our heads and scattered along the Yellow Brick Road.

Butterflies in autumn skies land on Chrysanthemums and

orange red Pumpkins ready for pies.

I love butterflies and was thrilled when one perched on my knee this summer .... I can well see how the Yellow Brick Rd would come alive in autumn with lovely golden leaves to dance around beneath them trees.
Scarecrows are wonderful brainless, innate creatures, but so friendly at the same time :)

The title grabs the reader, drags them in and treats them to a make believe delight using, probably, the film worlds most well known characters.
A good way to start a Monday morning :))

This is such a magical, fanciful, fantastical romp with known but somehow new characters. Tickles the kid in me, it does.

The ambiance of, "Butterflies and Autumn Skies" is appealingly warm and sad at the same time. There seems to be a somber, warm dance of romanticism. I'm, quite frankly, impressed with the romantic maturity of your poem.

I am in total agreement that butterflies & autumn skies (great sounding phrase!) coax us to release our inhibitions or disbelief, such that we can enter into Oz-like fantasies of the heart. I dare you to find one person who does not continue to feel kinship & affection for scarecrow, lion, & tinman, all these years later! I was right there on the yellow brick road of my afternoon fancy, soaking in the warm sun & buffeted by frisky ocean breezes . . . wonder where my yellow bricks may take me? (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That's a nice place to be!
dear Folks... I revised my poem in the second line... because
the Straw man needed a Brain. Dancing with a guy with no brain
was probably the best favor I could extend to him, since the dancing of
fast "Rock and Roll" would have shook the cobwebs out of his head...
Now I have removed the cobwebs from my head. Our brain needs
to experience "the dance" of romance. truly, Pat x
