' He had stopped to smile with eyes as large as chestnuts..' Laughed because i see that!
You have such a way and insight about the/your natural world, Pat. I can sometimes see you sitting at the window, on the porch or patio or somewhere, slightly hidden.. watching intently, listening as if you had to learn the air's music... you don't miss a thing. Your poem is smilingly wonderful.. so pleased I called as intended before.

I hide behind my kitchen curtains and look at the Railing on the old but sturdy deck outside the window. I keep the railing around the long side of the deck covered with bird seed including oiled Sunflower seeds. The Mourning Doves come in pairs and devour the seeds. Male and female Cardinals come in pairs and now they bring the young cardinals to teach them how to find food and be alert to predators. So because of their instincts I have to peek around to get a good view, but try to not scare them away. Some times, different breeds will show up... which delights me to no end. If I am in the back yard I often hear their Song. God has planted us where we can grow. Amen... as ever, Pat

What an experience. The Owl in my poem was the only Owl we have seen in years... if ever. I tried to identify the Owl in our yard and found the Tawny Owl to be close if not the exact one. We only saw it once a week or so ago. I will never forget it. truly, Pat

Your poem fully immersed me into the magic of this morning sight! I was already in love after reading "Tawny Owl" in title. "Eyes as large as chestnuts" put me over the top. The hurricane breeze thru Crepe Myrtle I almost felt . . . then the passage carrying so much lively sound, but not a squeak of it sounds like any way that owl sounds have ever been described! It really grabbed my attention with the freshness of your observations! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It seems we have so much to learn about Owls... I must research how they got the Honor of being Wise. And hence the term "Wise Guys".
They must have Wise Eyes and surely they must have supersonic Ears. No hearing aids for them... unless they could lose their hearing. Someone told me recently that a white Cat with blue eyes is often Deaf. We had feral cats and a few looked like "Lavender Samese... even the Vet said so when we took one to be neutered. The Vet discovered this white cat was totally deaf. The things we accidentally learn. Thanks for stopping by Wise friend. hugs, Pat

i think humans tend to scream more as they get older and wiser, just like the owl.
we see better and it makes us want to fly away from the state of the world...
maybe being an owl wouldn't be so bad....then from our perch on the branch we could comment on the state of things.

However, it is true... as we age and perhaps suffer from dementia.. we may cry and scream at times... just because we can. I have seen this phenomenon with patients in dialysis when they age and cannot understand why all the tubes are taking out blood, cleaning the blood and then returning it back through tubes to the body three days a week for years... unless they get a transplant which does not always last, and then back to dialysis for the rest of your life. It is a great innovation. Before 1940.. people wold simply pass away rather quickly. truly, Pat

Life is like a River that includes the sound of Warblers among the trees laden with happiness and tears... Wings take us to places we discover and people who write the Music we love to hear... quietly.. more..
