I actually had a strange bird appear on the railing of my deck outside my kitchen window. He stood like an Owl with a spotted chest but his face looked more like a brown thrasher. My heart lost a few beats and as I turned, he flew away.
I will never forget this larger than a bird and smaller than an Owl.... who may have traveled far. He looked very wise. truly, Pat

beautifully written Patricia.... I love it when one of the birds (mostly wrens) come and sit on the railing of my back yard deck.... their chirping does maake it seem as if they want to talk to you, tell you their story of travels, sights they have seen... it's peaceful and exciting all at once... I can feel this as well in your poem and I am happy you had such an experience, may there be many more...

They seem to know that someone cares... and the Great Spirit abounds. My son married a Navajo lady and they have two young girls 7 and almost 5 who love Nature including the birds and ducks in SLC, Utah. They visited us here in Virginia in early May. fondly, Pat
Pat, your personification of the bird is brilliant. The story he told you was so lovely. Filled with rich imagery, your lines are a pleasure to read. You offered him a nest....which shows your compassionate soul. You love nature and you love people....and that is why I value our friendship. Wonderful poetry. Lydi*

Isn't it amazing what nature confides in us I'd we listen?
I pictured this while sitting on my kitchen window ledge, looking out to see if there is anything in the garden that wants to share a tale.
Maybe I'll take them out a bit of breakfast as a sweetener.
Beautifully captured images in your words, of those moments that can stop us in our tracks and make us grateful to be there, in the moment.
A+, take another gold star 😀

I love it. The visitor, the professor's ambiance, an angel perhaps looking to bless others with knowledge and wisdom, the generosity of the host, the special bond. You are truly wonderful.
