As an Equine Scientist and thoroughbred lover, this poem is right on cue for me, Pat.
I am well versed in the exploits of Thunder Snow. He is a fine galloper. Any horse that can win the Dubai World Cup by nearly six panels is a very good athlete. His Kentucky Derby effort was out of character. From my experience it seemed possible that when the horse jumped, the saddle slipped slightly backwards towards the rump. Such an occurrence usually always results in the horse buckjumping. That aside, the only other thing i noticed was that there were shadows of the grandstand towers across the track and quite often flighty types can get spooked by these. Either way, his performances since that day have marked him down as a quality animal. There will be no more Kentucky Derby for him though. The race is restricted to three year olds, and as such, a horse only gets one chance at the glory. Perhaps he will return to defend his World Cup crown in March.
I enjoyed this poem immensely. It touches on one of my prominent areas of expertise and your addition of the Xmas theme to it is very imaginative.
A wonderfully inventive poem. Very different and much appreciated by this Equine aficionado.

Here in the USA Santa does ride in a Sleigh pulled by Reindeer with names Prancer and Dancer, Comet and Cupid and so forth. However before we had Cars like the Model T Ford, everyone rode in a Skeigh pulled by a Horse or two. We kept our horses in a Barn. Now we dream of riding in a one horse open Sleigh on Christmas Eve. So being pulled by a Race Horse like Thunder Snow would be very exciting. Merry Christmas, Pat
A very warm tribute given to a horse, and with vivid images such as 'snow storm' and 'Kentucky Derby'. One can sense that there is a deep love for this horse named 'Thunder Snow', and the readers can picture in their mind a horse galloping through snow in winter.

It is beautiful the way large snow flakes fall softly until every branch is covered with snow and Cardinals and Blue Jays are looking for Seed. Our bird feeders are full of sunflower seeds, so we had quite a Show at our Windows. May your days be full of Spirit and friends at your door. truly, Pat
I enjoyed your use of comparison and contrast generated by the distribution of the world's wealth for the owners of that magnificent horse. In addition, the contrast of that power and wealth setting with the simple pleasure of having an enjoyable moment in the snow worked like a time machine travelling back to what will always will be simple and enjoyable. Indeed, the name of the horse is an exercise in contrast as well, nicely done.

Being too wimpy to tolerate snowy climates, I rarely think about a sleigh ride as a topic of a Christmas poem. That's why it's so fun to share your viewpoint, full of lively imagery & sensory delights. I most prefer originality in a poem, so I also give you big kudos for taking us on an unexpected ride to find out about the ancestry of your horse! Of course! Why not give your animal friend top billing & show us more about him? As an animal lover, I totally relate to your focus! *wink! wink!* Hope your holidays are starting out merry & bright! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
