Out on a Limb

Out on a Limb

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

A lonely thrush in search of love...

"
Flying from storm to storm...

I found myself out on a limb...

Not a friend in sight...

only a Hermit Thrush from the Rockies

He chirped and chirped until daylight

with a reddish tail that flew like a kite...

I followed him in the noon day sun

landing on sunflowers with seed to

nourish our soul...

Myself a Wood Thrush with a brown back

and a spotted creamy breast...

with our love song we headed west...

I love the way your poem reveals everything VERY SLOWLY! It’s not clear we have two bird lovers here until quite late in your story. Everything you share could apply to human or bird, but more & more, we recognize this as a woodland connection of the featheries! You have a great command of describing the various birds & which ones would be drawn together, in particular locations, etc. You convey the birds’ essences as if they are very distinct entities (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you and same to you!
Delightful poetry Pat. Your words can apply to our feathered friends or the human species. I like the thought that birds of a different variety or humans from different cultural backgrounds can find love and a future together. Many thanks

Tea and crumpets sound wonderful to me Pat:)
Such a sweet romantic tale of two birds. While they both looked quite different, they fell in love and flew off into the sunset together. A lilting write, Pat. I enjoyed it. You are such a nature lover and that comes through in all your writing. Lydi**

Your poetry flies on the wings of love and romance. Love soars with feathered wings in search of a companion of the sky. Angaelic and natural.

I assume this was inspired by something you witnessed yourself?

As quite the animal lover, I am always fascinated when two different species or sub species form a common bond that baffles all the theories of Darwinism. It is a wonderful thing to see two separate individuals like those you have written about joining together to help each other and ensure their survival in the natural world. Something that always inspires and swells the heart with hope that humanity can always do the same.

This is another one of your beautifully described, natural wonders, Pat. It is always a pleasure to read your poems and be swept gently into the swathes of the green treetops or into the divine hands of Mother Nature.

Wonderful work, as always.

What a delight it was to read this, Pat. I love observing our little friends, their beauty and wing of flight is truly amazing. Your description of "a reddish tail that flew like a kite" was the frosting on the cake. It's nature in the eye of the beholder at its best!
